I believe grace is really imparted through the sacrament.

 Since when?

I believe
in something similar (symbolic parallelism) but don't understand how Calvin could reject the Roman Catholic teaching of ex opere operato and then basically teach that grace is imparted THROUGH the sacrament.

In my church this is referred to as "fencing the table." Prior to cmmunion service the pastor clearly explain that communion is only for believers, and must be approached after confession of sin(done by providing for a time of silent reflection) and reverence. The Scriptures from 1Cor regarding that approaching communion irreverenty leads to illess and death.

Found a summary of the three major views held during the Reformation:
1. Symbolic memorialism of Zwingli—basically, the bread and wine are symbols of the past grace of Christ on the cross.

2. Symbolic parallelism of Bullinger—basically, the bread and wine are symbols but at the same time faith receives Christ on a parallel track.

3. Symbolic instrumentalism of Calvin—basically, the bread and wine are symbols through which, as instruments, one receives Christ. [end quote]

I've been reevaluating since being led astray by MacArthur.

That's my pastor's positon. It's also in the WCF. I look at church history and it's certainly a belief that goes all the way back and Paul's teachings were very reverent regarding it. Also, reason tells me it's God's grace that has saved me placed me in a position to share in the Lord's supper with his Church.

I believe

It's a mystery for sure, but obviously a means of grace as we are all thinking of Christ's sacrifice during the sacrament. It's a grace of worship we have been given.
