Story Name

ok...I'm writing a story...it's getting closer to 30,000 words (last I checked) but I still don't have a title for it. My friends are always asking me what it's called, and some of them keep implying that I should have a name for it. I want a name for it, which makes things even worse. But I don't know what to call it, and I don't think I'm far enough along in developing the story to come up with a title (it's only barely getting started...I'm sure I'll have at least 100,000 words before I'm done...I'm hoping for 200,000). What should i do??

I would wait until you know what it's about and then name it. If you want to appease your friends- make up a name and then change it later.

What's it about..hm...difficult to explain. Well, the main character's a pirate girl whose father was executed at the beginning of the story. She leaves home in despair, and then things get complicated. I've been experimenting a but with what I can do in writing, so it has a lot of strange elements that are very difficult to explain...hey, maybe for now I'll just call it "The Experiment" since that's essentially what it is

Good as any I guess. Its rather odd though because a writer usually has a purpose or a goal in writing a book. In his/her mind is usually a rough concept of a point to make. Is there a lesson in it? Is it just entertainment? What is my purpose or goal in writing this? Why would a person want to read this? What kind of an audience am I speaking to? etc.

Without knowing some of these answers up front it could turn into just a rambling. The goal needs to be firmly planted in your mind for your creative spirit to be effective in my opinion. Just a suggestion.

My goal is to tell the story of the characters. There are quite a few major ones

I have a general idea of where my story is headed, I just don't have a title for the story yet. It's actually not uncommon for me. I like having a perfect title And usually that doesn't come along until the story is about over. So I'm not really concerned. I'll come up with one sooner or later...just wondering what you guys thing

Make a name that has nothing to do with the story but sounds interesting. Or, it could only have remotely little to have to do with the story. I hate story titles that are within the story or especially if it's stated by a character. It just seems really cheesy and cliche. I usually try to just find one word or character in the story that everything revolves around. Like with what you saids about your story I would simply call it Pirate or Pirate Girl and then see if anything better comes up along the way.
