  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"I am America and so can you!" by Stephen Colbert.

If you don't know who this guy is, then please... open the cave door :p

I like this guy's ideals and yes he may curse in his book and on his show, but a common Christian can't argue that his ideas are very much in our favor, but...

I recently got his book for Christmas and have already read half of it (big fan) :), but I came acrossed the portion where he speaks about religion and theres a section where he talks about all religions and through funny criticism bashes them, but the section for Islam was short and dry... here it is word for word:

"Islam

Islam is a great and true religion revealed in the Holy Koran which was dictated by the angel Gabriel to the final prophet Mohammad, Blessing and Peace Be Upon Him."

This statement troubled me when I came acrossed it, is Colbert sarcastically saying this (he makes it VERY CLEAR that he's Christian, but NO section, not even Christianity, bears "great and true"...

Now I could be over judging this but was he being sarcastic or serious? Anyone have a take on this or have heard or read anything?

Colbert is almost always being ironic or sarcastic, and yes, I like him very much. He is very funny. I think he's mostly liberal, but he'll make fun of anybody, so he's at least balanced in that sense. That makes him much fairer than Jon Stewart, who usually only makes fun of conservatives.

From Wikipedia:

Although by his own account he was not particularly political before joining the cast of The Daily Show, Colbert is a self-described Democrat. In an interview at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard Institute of Politics, he stated that he has "no problems with Republicans, just Republican policies." He is also a practicing Roman Catholic, as well as a Sunday school teacher.

In other words, Colbert's a characterization of conservatism.

Since Ronald Reagan gave up the big screen and John Wayne died, Republicans in the entertaimnent industry have mainly retired deep into the closet.

James Woods, Kelsey Grammer, Rick Schroeder, Patricia Heaton, Ron Jaworski, and Robert Wuhl are all Republicans.

Wuhl goes after President Bush pretty hard, but I've seen interviews with him in which he practically fell on his face and worshipped President Reagan.

I was being a little tongue-in-cheek by implying that there were no Republicans in the industry since John Wayne.
It is good to know though, that there still are a few prominent Republicans entertaining us.
