I'm sorry for posting here but it seems all the board above are very slow.

Anyway, I have a 16 year old step daughter from my husbands previous marriage.

Please know that I am a very sensitive person who has been battling depression, anxiety, PTSD, Social Anxiety and Bipolar II.

I had gone to bed hoping to fall asleep (of course as always couldn't fall asleep) anyway, I get out of bed and she is on the lap top (she had already been on it for an hour) I had told her she had 10 minutes to say bye, the next thing I know she slams the lap top lid down and takes off to her room.

I told her that she had the opportunity to come down to the house for 2 hours while I was gone and get on the internet but she chose to stay up at her granny's house and watch shows for 2 hours that she had recorded on DVR.

Was I wrong to do this? Thanks for your input.

I don't think you were wrong in doing this. Why did you want her to get off the laptop, if I may ask?

This was at 11:30 at night and when I can't sleep I get on the lap top, it makes me sleepy when I surf the net and she had already been on the internet for an hour and Thank you for telling me it wasn't wrong, by the way the lap top is her dad's and mine. Thanks for your input.

Well, of course you have every right to use it. :)

Did you actually tell her " you have 10 minutes to say bye (to the internet)" or did you tell her "you have 10 minutes to get off of the internet, I'm having trouble sleeping tonight"? Not that her reaction was appropriate either way, but if you actually said the first thing then that seems like you were giving attitude that wasn't needed...unless she was talking to someone on the internet. So I just need details. I don't think its wrong of you to ask her to get off of the internet, but the way you ask is very important.

That's true. The way my parents asked me to do things when I was younger often determined whether or not I did it and how I did it.
