I actually own a few SP outfits. I've also been to a SP concert that was Cthulhu themed and Abney Park played. =]
I am also currently reading a SP book.
Like I said, I adore it! =]

These are my outfits. They are kind of lame, but that's because I got most of the stuff for them at yard sales & thrift stores. I even had to dye some of the clothing myself.

my 'fancy' outfit (don't worry, I have both legs. and from the concert in 2010)

And this is my 'gungy' outfit. (yes, I'm in the TARDIS. From a fantasy faire where I was a vendor with my mom in 2011)

Would you say Jules Verne's books might be a type of steampunk? Anyway I love Victorian literature, and am interested in a genre related to steampunk caled gaslight romance. In this, the victorian story relates more to the fantasy, with an emphasis on magic rather than machanical, computers etc. In this genre a famous character is often used, such as Sherlock Holmes. Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell I think is gaslight, and the movie Van Helsing would probably be considered gaslight. I prefer fantasy, and have not finished a gaslight book yet. Tried to read Jonathan Strange but found it boring. I recently picked up a book, Queen Victoria: Demon Hunter, which I think has a really funny title. Don't know if it would qualify as gaslamp, since I am just learning about the genre. But I think the genre has potential.

I don't know about steampunk, I think i prefer real Victorian. I'm not to familiar with it. Some steampunk stuff I think is too weird and ugly. I am more into fantasy. I wonder if the movie Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter could be considered gaslight romance.

Well, steampunk encompasses more than the victorian era... though the clothes of that time were pretty cool. There are some authors out there putting a whole new spin on steampunk... there's one write who has a world that combines epic fantasy and some steampunk elements... essentially, steam technology comes into play after a cataclysmic war results in the weakening of magic throughout the world, and so its people have to become very creative in using magic...

I think steampunk has a lot of potential, especially if we don't limit ourselves to one version of it.

I think I was a fan before I knew what it was. As a kid, I loved The Time Machine (book and 1960s movie), and Tim Powers and James Blaylock later became favorite authors of mine. I didn't realize until much later that they were among the first authors to be associated with that label.

well, steampunk varies based on one's interpretation.
there was a tv series that used steampunk as a theme. though i'd think it is more towards a fantasy setting with a bit of steampunk influence.
still good though.
it is called Riese: Kingdom Falling
worth checking out.

of course, as with all the 'good' scifi and fantasy. the big bad company did not let the series finish.

I love steampunk! I'm just getting into it, and my first project is going to be my headphones, as the headband broke, so its more of necessity than anything else.

In terms of my thoughts on steampunk, I would set it in a post-apocalyptic world. We lost the technologies of the modern age(mostly), but retained the steam tech. So we build our societies from that. Post-apocalypse and steampunk are my two favorite scifi genres, so I put them together. :p

I agree with Darkfell. Blending styles and science of the victorian era and reimagining modern times if they had followed along those lines. So you can have computers but they would have a very archaic look to them in terms of design or how they function.

Agapedragon, I know that you think it's weird and ugly (some of it) but it's all about style and appearance (which opens the eyes to the way clothing, weaponry and technology would have developed). Warehouse 13 has a few elements of Steampunk in it.

For Jules Verne's day I don't think it would have been steampunk because what he imagined was, to him, futuristic. Looking back, of course, we'd see it as Steampunk.

And yes, I do like the steampunk style and some of the fiction but I tend to prefer it to be 'visual' (ie. movies, TV, convention costumes etc).

This may be the wrong place to put this, but I just finished a rather good Steampunk novel. Actually, it's an good bleed of Gothic Horro with Steampunk. Below is the site for learning more about it. I cannot recommend it strongly enough.

I like steampunk along the lines of information tech without high-tech materials like plastic or steel. Brass, bronze, iron, leather, copper, glass, and such. I want to try and make a laptop like that someday.

Make a chip to rival a pentium out of leather, go ahead :p
