Biden, like it or not (and many of you won't) was on his usual uniter stance; infrastructure that even people who didn't vote for it will benefit from, lowered insulin costs, etc. In what may be a first, he essentially got a live promise (out loud) from the Republicans that Social Security and Medicare were safe from budget cuts.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders was off on another world of culture war grievances from beginning to end. Much of her speech had no relation at all to what Biden was saying, but was geared toward promoting her brand. Good luck with that is all I can say. "The choice is between normal or crazy," she said. Obviously opinions will differ, but one side is promoting infrastructure with US-made products and the other is banning books from school libraries.

The call against having or seeking a multicultural society is fast coming down to the last two factions, and, for some, that is “one side too many”.

As covered by the PBS NewsHour:
State of the Union:
Gov. Sanders' response:

Oddly, they seem to have clipped the first couple of minutes' of Gov. Sanders' speech, but most of it is there.
Thanks ever so much for the links!, I see 1:45 for the SOTU, not bad, I wish I could talk for 90 minutes at-a-go.
@1:30 (on The rebuttal) lotta “Manifest Destiny” vibes.

I'm listening now. I am so glad Biden challenged Republicans to commit to protecting Social Security and Medicare (even if he had to embarrass some of them into doing it.) I am very supportive of almost everything on his 'wish list,' while knowing that most of them won't come true.

He needed to set the bar boldly. To proclaim his goals boldly.

He was also very gracious to the new Speaker of the House and Sen. McConnell. How refreshing after four years of seeing the opposite.

I haven't heard Huckabee Sanders yet. I have never been impressed by her.

She always looks so unhappy (and given some of the terrible things she says, I suppose I should say at least she has the grace to be unhappy with herself about it.) My daughter said she thinks maybe she'd had a stroke, or maybe just Bell's palsy or some sort of facial paralysis. It made me feel more sympathetic to her. It must be hard to show such an unhappy face to the world.

Oh, Biden just said "ban assault weaposn now." Well, duh! They should have been banned permanently. And yes we need comprehensive immigration reform. It requires compromise from both sides. Both. And all the name calling and misrepresentation doesn't help, either.

I will let Chris Jones, the Democratic candidate for governor against Arkansas, the nuclear physicist who worked for NASA and got a PhD in urban planning from Harvard, do the talking.

As I've said elsewhere, any Republican who can breathe can defeat even a rocket scientist/ordained minister/and think tank CEO in a place like Arkansas. Somehow or other Sanders ducked two out of three debates with Jones, all while issuing TV commercials about "socialist Joe Biden" (Lol.)

This is an email so I couldn't quite link it.
I just watched Sarah Huckabee Sanders deliver the Republican rebuttal to President Biden’s State of the Union address. I can’t say I was surprised by the lies and hysteria she peddled with lines like this:
“Every day, we are told that we must partake in their rituals, salute their flags, and worship their false idols…”

Just as appalling is what Sarah DIDN’T say. She offered no real solutions to any of the challenges Democrats are working to solve every day.
Fortunately, Arkansas had State Representative Ashley Hudson to put the rebuttal in context and share what Arkansas truly needs.
Representative Hudson is part of the bench we are building of fearless leaders who are ready to bring big change to Arkansas. And we have a lot of work to do, because these bad ideas from extremist Republicans are spreading across the country like wildfire.
So, let’s set the record straight.
The truth is, unemployment is down and paychecks are up. Inflation is receding and life is finally returning to normal after a once-in-a-century global pandemic.
We all know the last few years have been rough. But friends, I’m here to tell you that America is getting back on her feet.
Unfortunately, if Republicans in Congress get their way, we’re going to lose all the progress we’ve made in the last two years.
Right now, Republicans in Congress are plotting to gut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid – a move that would hurt as many as 1.6 million Arkansans. But the vast majority of voters, including 68% of Republicans, want to increase spending to shore up our social safety net.
While we’re working to fix supply chain struggles to bring basic expenses like the cost of milk and eggs back down to pre-pandemic levels, Republicans in Congress want to jack up your grocery bill with a 23% national sales tax. If you think you’re paying too much for groceries now, wait until that $200 bill becomes $246!
Republicans in Congress want to default on our national debt, triggering another major financial crisis. Democrats are committed to meeting our financial obligations for money that Congress – including the entire Arkansas delegation – has already spent.
The truth is the state of our union is STRONG, but Arkansas is struggling under the stranglehold of far right politicians who don’t represent our priorities; who don’t represent our values; and who don’t listen to us when we tell them what we need.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders was handpicked by Donald Trump’s allies tonight to continue the GOP’s misinformation campaign and tear us apart. But she doesn’t speak for Arkansas, and we’re going to prove it.

Today, I launched Vortex PAC, an all new grassroots movement that will transform Arkansas politics by building organizing power for Democrats in all 75 counties. Our first objective is to replace all four of the Arkansas Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives.

One: He started with the lie everyone knew he would. Creating 12 mil new jobs. Hogwash. He inherited the fastest growing recovery in history.

Two: Thank goodness we have a Speaker who is an adult, unlike the former petulant child who ripped up the State of the Union Speech on national tv.

I have not watched the full speech as of yet, but the President is a well established “Divider in Chief” in his approach to ruling. He certainly seemed to initiate an us v them scenario once again. He United only those who dare not disagree with him.

Biden has the unique ability to, ignore the realities of what is going on, blame everyone else for the problems he creates, make promises that he has no intention of ever fulfilling and tell stories about himself that are pure fiction

Lets see how others would word this.. so rebuttal.. Not my words.

The state of our union is a complete, unmitigated disaster.

The economy is in shambles, the border is two years into the worst migrant influx in U.S. history, taxpayer dollars are flying into the hands of a corrupt Eastern European regime without oversight, and our No. 1 enemy — Red China — has compromised our president, our politicians, our phones, and our skies.

Much as he did in his lie-riddled speech last year, President Joe Biden will likely try to use his State of the Union address to Congress this week to credit himself for helping the nation back onto its feet. In reality, he’s done nothing but subject Americans to more crippling crises that prompt historic levels of disapproval.

In an unprecedented “level of sustained pessimism,” 71 percent of Americans believe the country is on the wrong track. Four in 10 Americans, the most in 37 years, told ABC News/Washington Post pollsters they have become financially worse off since Biden took office in January of 2021.

In the last few months, even Democrats have turned on their party leader after seeing his incompetence. Following the 2022 midterm elections, 52 percent of Democrats expressed a desire for Biden to seek reelection in 2024. Days before his address, support for a second Biden term fell to 37 percent among the president’s key voting bloc.

Polls may be a flawed means for gauging the public’s reaction but even without them, it isn’t difficult to see that the Biden regime is an absolute embarrassment from top to bottom.

Here’s what Biden will conveniently fail to mention in Tuesday night’s address.

The Economy Is Not ‘Roaring Back’
Biden will likely spend a good portion of his speech boasting that financial legislation such as the ill-named Inflation Reduction Act passed by the Democrat-controlled Congress is restoring American jobs, wages, and savings and causing inflation to “fall.”

Yet, two years after the president greenlit the beginning of Democrats’ expensive spending spree, Americans are still suffering from gas prices well above $3 per gallon, being gaslit about how Biden didn’t induce a recession, and paying 60 percent more for eggs than they did in 2021.

In 2022 alone, U.S. households lost $6.8 trillion in wealth thanks to record-high inflation that isn’t going away, crashing stocks, and a teetering housing market.

No matter which way Biden, the “experts,” or the corporate media try to spin it, the economy and Americans’ pocketbooks are not roaring back as Biden told Congress they would last year........" The rest is at thefederalist. No don't ever go there. But this was spot on. I had to use a different search again.

At some point decades ago, the State of the Union speech became nothing more than a pep rally, immediately followed by reporters claiming to tell you what you just heard and rebuttals claiming to tell you what you didn't. I no longer bother with them.

That’s contrary to fact- Biden inherited the Covid economy.

That’s patently false. Biden does not seek to divide, unlike the MAGA/Freedom Caucus.

Completely disagree. an example: refusing to work with Republican leadership on the debt ceiling. Not even willing to negotiate. The Democratic policy of “my way of the highway” is not unifying.

Holding the economy hostage is not unifying.

Oh? I'd love to hear your thoughts on the outbursts from MTG and others during Biden's speech.

I hate SOTU and avoid it on principle. Perhaps it made sense in the 18th c., but now Its a campaign speech.

That said, Im glad the president did well for the most part.
