I wasn't sure if I had anything to say here but maybe the Lord's in charge of my fingers right now, perhaps I've got a word or 200...
My first thought about starting a new job is you might have to learn, if you haven't mastered the task already, to bite your lip to keep from opening your big, fat, know-it-all mouth. No offense, that's just the way I have seen myself in the past and something I try not to let myself be, a big know-it-all.
Situtation: You're new and someone with more time there and experience tells you to do something that you simply can't not comprehend as being right or efficient or what have you. You think, in the words of the legendary John McEnroe: "You cannot be serious!"
You've often got to bite your lip and shut up if you think their way is wrong when you have a better idea. Here's the kicker: if you know 125% that you have a better way still sometimes you've gotta do what they want and only what they want.
There are exceptions. When I came to the job I have now there was an instance early on when I was the one with more experience in being an EMT but I only just started working there so I was the new guy. Often we are called upon to be a glorified, under-appreciated taxi service delivering people to the emergency room when they don't even really need to go. Other times, though, the job is very rewarding and fulfilling. One night in my first two weeks we had a bad call. My partner had more time there but was out of school for a much shorter time than I had been. We needed to stabilize a patient all the way to the hospital and he couldn't get it done. How could I help, i was driving. I eventually pulled over the truck and pushed him aside and did what I could do.......... well, it was more than he could. We were a team and equal yet he was still my "superior" because he had more time with this EMS than I did. But I showed him up because when it comes to the welfare of a patient you don't screw around.
So there are exceptions but you've gotta be careful and respectful of those there longer than you.
As soon as I click Submit I'll say a prayer for ya, so you may do well and excel and your new job and that it will be a blessing to you, leading you to better jobs in the future and prayer that while you're there you'll be able to tell people about the greatness of God!
Best of luck, man! Amen and God Bless!!!
