  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Starship Flight Five - Scheduled for Sunday Morning. This is going to be huge and a test to see what the SpaceX team has been up to the last few months.

I am excited. Hopefully, there is a live stream of this Starship launch after I get home from church. :)

Some guy on Reddit thought of adding Star Trek's warp nacelles (engines) to SpaceX's Starship for a cool computer wallpaper. It looks pretty sick (cool), as younger millennials and older Gen Z would say.

Here's a video of the launch, hot staging, booster return flight and booster catch.

Thank you for the video. Also, the condensation clouds near the ground before the launch are surreal. Must be the coolant or fuel that creates these clouds. Mmm, I love the crackling the ship makes at the 50 second mark.

It is a shame the ship had to blow into pieces. Hopefully, that debris is cleaned up from the ocean. Overall, the re-entry was not as interesting as the launch, as the re-entry took place on the night side of the Earth. The initial part was cool, with the bright plasma from the aerodynamic friction.

I wonder when they (SpaceX) will attempt to capture the Starship vehicle. I am sure they got LOTS of data on reentry and will make even more improvement.

I wonder how the inflight fuel transfer went. I am sure that info will be out in the coming days.

I can not speculate, until we have further information, but I am sure the team got a lot of telemetry on the order of terabytes. :)

I think this is the best place to show the photo taken by Cosmic Background Studios. Starship is stacked for IFT5 launch in the early hours of October 13th. In the sky is Comet c/2023 A3

Wish I could see a comet in person, but they are hard to find in the sky. This is so beautiful, almost makes one think that this ship is launching a mission to visit the comet. :) Would make for a good movie, a mission to land humans on a comet.

Comets are very interesting when you can see them. I've seen a couple. I can understand why ancient people saw them as messengers or "omens" from "gods".

There are a couple movies about missions to comets. There is Deep Impact (1998). There is Lifeforce (1985) which is more of a horror-sci fi movie (original title was Space Vampires).

ESA sent the Rosetta Mission to Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in 2014 and landed on it with the Philae lander. Philae conducted the first in situ analysis of a comet's nucleus.

I have watched Deep Impact, it was a good film. Also, I remember the Philae lander, and the mission blew me away. It was not widely publicized, so I did not see the video of the landing until 2018 or so.

Oops! Video repost... Apologies... Was exciting though not sure of all the accomplishments yet..
That is alright, the launch is good enough to be watched twice. :)

SpaceX Starship Launch 5: Everything That Happened in 5 Minutes.... Not sure how the Indian Ocean landing was successful..

I am not sure how the ocean landing was sucessful either, but it was the first time Starship was in one piece and touched the water after going to space. But they blew it (pun intended) a few seconds after touchdown.

Maybe we could say this is a scene from an unreleased sequel called Waterstarship Down.

I've been fortunate to see three comets the return Of Halley's comet, Hyakuture and McNaught.
McNaught was by far the most spectacular which I was able to take a tricolour image of.
