  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well I can't speak for anyone else, but you ruined nothing for me. I'm like a child in a candy store when I hear of a new spoiler I can't wait to read it. I don't think Lucas will ever let anyone do anything with Star Wars, remake or not. I can't see them ever remaking the originals, with everything that has been remade people should get the hint;Planet of the Apes/Psycho. There was an article that surfaced a few months back about the possiblity of more movies, 7/8/9, and a weird fact that Lucasfilm had renewed the contract with Hasbro until 2018. So who knows, but Spielberg was quoted saying he would like the chance to direct a Star Wars movie and that he approach GL about AOTC. Being the Spielberg fanboy that I am I love the idea of him taking the helm for a SW movie.

Ok this may be an old thread but I have to say something. Comparing Lord of the RIngs to Star Wars is like comparing apples and orages. LOTR is based on books written sometime ago. Let me emphasis the word BASED for all you LOTR fans of the books movies can never do books justice. Secound in the 1970's when Lucas made SW he was an inovator and groundbreaker. Now he seems to just be using digital creations (and bad ones at that). The digital Yoda YUCK! Chirstopher Lee just standing there with a light saber flying around his head come on these graphics are horrible its like some kind of spider fight ;) . The movies 4-6 were inventive great story and for the time had great effects. I would have like to see him go back and use those techniques along with new advances (sort of like what Peter Jackson did with LOTR). The new SW movies are hidious and should be disavowed by any true SW fan. Lucas has gone from inovative and fresh to total use of computers and bad ideas. I so looked forward to the SW prequels but so far have been let down twice will we make it three my guess is yes.

Wow this has just turned into a Star Wars bashing thread. I don't really get the comment "should be disavowed by any true SW fan". I guess I'm just some pretend Star Wars fan. And Lucas is still doing things to advance the movie industry, he is constantly working on new cameras for shooting films.

I think the reason so many people have felt let down by the prequels is for the simple fact that you've had 20 plus years to let the original become larger than life in your mind and nothing will ever live up to what you've built up. What is so different about the PT in comparison to the OT? Bad acting, over the top effects? Because the OT had plenty of that too. I just don't get the dislike for the new movies. Maybe it has something to do with all the "good" movies coming out like Honey or You Got Served!

Yeah, I like the new ones. I have to say I like 2 more then 1, but still like them. I look at this as if he is filling in the blanks.

And think about this: Look at this from the perspective that a child not yet born would look at these...in other words, let's say some kid five, ten years down the road, some kid who has never seen the films, this kid gets to see these films 'in order', 1-6.

Then that kid will get the best for last! See? So maybe there is more genuis to Lucas then he gets credit for.

Remember also that it's his (Lucas') job to make people happy, that's why people shell out millions a year to go to the movies.

Then wouldn't you say he's failing at his job, at least among a large swath of those who've paid to see his movies? I can count on one hand the people I know over the age of 12 who thought Jar-Jar Binks was a good character. As this thread has shown, he's succeeded less in making people happy than in making them angry.

I'm happy about this.

But it doesn't atone for making bad Star Wars prequels.

No, no I wouldn't. If people disliked EP1 so much they sure had a hard to showing it, I'm positive that EP2 made a huge amount of money and sold out countless #s of screens for the weeks. If you disliked EP1 so much why would you shell out the money to see EP2? And why even bother going to see EP3 if you "know" you're going to be let down. And I have never heard anyone openly complain about Jar Jar, I think the JJ chaos was created after some critic that was out to smear GL anyways started the racism connection with Jar Jar.

I disliked EP1 so much but still shelled out the money for EP2. Why? A few reasons.
1. I was hoping Lucas would redeem himself.
2. It's Star Wars and you kind of have to see them.
3. I'm stupid and willing to waste my money to see stuff that will only make me angry. Except for the Matrix sequels. Fortunately, I heard enough about them first to avoid them completely.

Will I watch EP3 in the theater? Probably. Why? See reasons nos. 2 and 3 previously.

I saw EP1 on opening night and the theater was full of wincings and moanings whenever Jar-Jar opened his mouth to utter the next unamusing inanity. It was what my friends and I talked about on the way home. It was what the people I heard talking about the movie generally condemned.

Never knew about the racism allegations. How'd that come about? Just because he's got a Jamaican accent?

The racism allegations came about when someone whined about Jar Jars' "yousa" etc etc. They claimed that it represented African American Slave talk. I'll find the article in a few, but it was sampled in South Park The Movie for that reason alone. What I find interesting is 3 out of the 5 friends I saw EP1 with on opening night happen to be African Americans and none of them said anything about the way Jar Jar spoke.

What was wrong with the Matrix sequels? I"m not going to argue over those, out of all my friends I was the only one that thought they were great. I'm just interested in hearing why you disliked them.

Edit: http://www.blackflix.com/articles/jar_jar.html
Jar Jar racism link. That was the first one I found not the most in depth but you can get the general idea, there's been so many alleged racism stories it really doesn't matter which one you read.
