In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. I am a Big (No Wait) Huge Star Wars Fan, I study the Fictional History of it and I have spent coutless hours pouring over information about various Star Wars issues. I wish people would leave George Lucas alone, we have to understand that if it was not for him we would not have Star Wars, The Matrix, Lord Of The Rings (For those of you who are fans) or many of the other incredible films that we have today. He is a genius. You cannot expect the new prequels to be like the Old Triolgy, it is a different time (In our world and the SW world) In the New Films the universe is beautiful and virgin, the Old Films show the universe as old and used. Star Wars whether it is Old or New is still the greatest movies in the world (The Passion Of The Christ also falls in that catogory)

I am a "Empire Strikes Back" Fan I think it is my favorite Old Star Wars Film, My Favorite New Star Wars Film is Episode I & II (I like them the same) I love Star Wars (All Of Them). I think Ep3 is going to be INCREDIBLE, I think you will see more "70s" hairstyles in that movie then any other modern Movie lol! I love The Expanded Universe. I love The Games. Aw Shoot! I Love Star Wars

Hayden Christasen was a great Anakin, he played the part with conviction. Jake Loyd was good. I think people just wanted Anakin to be all solem and dark as a child but I am glad they sowed that this boy was just a kid.

Darth Maul ROCKED!! Darth Vader is still the best & I can't wait to see Chewie again.

Star Wars ROCKS!! EP3 5/19/04/2005

I appreciate what George Lucas did. He made some really great films. We also wouldn't have Indiana Jones without him.

I do not, however, believe that if someone has done something really great in the past, he is entitled to then produce rubbish and expect to be free from criticism. Having created good work in the past does not absolve him of the responsibility to continue to produce good work. If anything, he open to even harsher criticism because he has shown us what he is capable of in the past. We know he can do better, because he has.

The original three are all great. I can't pick a favorite.

But after seeing what George Lucas did in remastering Star Wars/ A New Hope, someone should've taken his camera away. I cannot for the life of me imagine what item hit George Lucas on the head so hard that he thought including Jamaican Jar-Jar was a good idea. A piano? A Volkswagen Beetle? A steer? I just don't know.

And how in the world was Amidala attracted to that creep? There is no redeeming quality to Anakin. Ladies, would you be attracted to this angry kid leering at you and throwing tantrums? Amidala should not be attracted to Anakin. It is beyond believability.
Are you talking New Beetle, or old? 'Cause that might have made a difference.

;)

And yes, how or why would Amidala like that punk Anakin...wait. He is like the ultimate bad boy.

So yeah, I could see it. I had a friend in high school that always went out with the creeps. The worse they were (as in bad boy ratio), the more she wanted to date them.

Go figure. So maybe George hit the nail on the head with that.

I just hope EP III is REAL dark. It has to be. You have to want to HATE Vader at the end of the film.

#1 - Return of the Jedi
Come on, that magnificent space battle, the battle on Endor, speederbikes, the Emperor, Jabba, more Boba Fett, Leia in a metal bikini. Plus, Luke finally becomes a man. How touching.

#2 - Empire Strikes Back
Close second. You get a good look at Han's skills and really get to know all the characters much better. Plus, it's got lots of good lines and the end is just soooo good.

#3 - A New Hope
Classic, nuff said.

The rest I could care less. I thought they lacked the magic the original ones had. Hayden isn't a good actor, at least in these. The stories are static. The huge battle in EP II, how could that many jedi loose? Comon! and the Special Editions are okay, but GREEDO DID NOT SHOOT FIRST.

Yea......Wasn't Prowse like 5 inches taller than Hayden? Maybe they'll put lifts in his boots lol.
A lot of people believe, myself included, that Vader had artifical limbs. If you watch ROTJ and pause it during the Emperor lightning scene you can see that Vaders skeleton created in an online by the lightning and you can see the what appears to be replacement limbs. Makes sense since he's already lost his hand and who know what he'll loose in EP3, but that's another subject.

You can see here a bit of what I'm speaking of, notice the arm/hand he lost in AOTC.

That's a good point Kenobikid, and when he first picks up the emperor in ROTJ, I always wondered why it only showed his skull, arms, and ribcage, no legs. Think he loses those?
I'm not sure what will happen in EP3 or even what I think anymore. Lucas has changed some many things around in the past 20 years. In the ROTJ novel it say that Obi Wan and Darth Vader had a duel over a volcanic area and Vader was burned badly etc etc. In that same novel it also states the Uncle Owen was Obi Wans brother, but that's now be debunked. In Splinter of the Minds Eye, which was written as a possible sequel to ANH, Leia cuts off Vaders hand defending Luke, that was changed in AOTC. Also in that novel Luke tells Leia he loves her and it's in a more than brother/sister type way. It just goes to show you that over the course of 20 years things get changed around and reworked. But think about what Obi Wan says of Vader,
"He's more machine now, twisted and evil". And you can take that at face value or read into the line more. I personaly think it works both ways.

But I do believe some of the "volcanic" area duel will still take place on one of the new planets the GL has mentioned or name dropped over the past months. Ok I'm gonna end this now because I could ramble on over SW all night. ;)

LOTR is a better story.

Lucas started making the movies more kid-friendly with Return of the Jedi when he replaced a village of Wookies with a village of Ewoks (awww, how cute).

Worse, he stopped trying to tell a good original story and instead tried to directly make people happy in cheap ways. Example: BOBA FETT the bountyhunter had a very minor role in the originals. But he had a 'cult' following - very popular - so Lucas made him a MAJOR character in the prequels. The entire trooper army is based on clones of his Dad.

Lucas - talk about a sellout... he hacked his own classic material and cheapened it.

Lord of the Rings may be a better story, Lucas has said many times that LOTR was a major influence on Star Wars. Along with The Hidden Fortress, Flash Gordan, 2001, and the list goes on and on. But also look at what the LOTR has taken from, read any Tolkien biography and you will see through his writings and journals that he was majorly influenced by Norse Mythology. This is visable in any form of art, everything is sampled in someway.

As far as Lucas selling out, it's the other way around. Lucas bought in. Plain and simple, he has stated countless times that these movies were for children and adults that are still able to make a connection with their childhood. Ask any adult Star War fan and they will tell you that they are still moved the same way today when they see the original as they were as a child. If there's one that that will always appeal to children and adults it's a story where good defeats evil. Plain and simple, same as LOTR, and in many ways the Ewoks mirror the Hobbits. The easiest way to look at is, the little guy taking a stand and lending a hand. Sounds alot like Hobbits to me.

Remember also that it's his job to make people happy, that's why people shell out millions a year to go to the movies. But I don't see Lucas as the type of guy who would add Boba Fett just to please the Fett fans, in fact I've read interviews where Lucas has stated that Fett was always planned for something bigger and there was always a larger backstory to him.

I cut short your words, to get to my point. The novels are not, nor were they ever, 'canon'.

In other words, Lucas has said time and time again, that the story is on the screen. If it's not in the movies, it never happens. So all those novels are just words to entertain the fan boys, (of which I am one, BTW), but nothing else.

So if Lucas wants to include something from a book, that is how it will become part of the canon. Otherwise, like I said, it's not part of the 'real', (for lack of a better word), story.

Sorry to rain on the parade.:sigh:

That is not quite the way it was meant to be, at least, not at first...

Lucas had always wanted to do a large army of Wookies for the ROTJ film. But even he, as rich as he was getting, could not afford the costumes for a large Wookie army back then (All of this is way before CG Wookies).

So, he took the proposed budget for the Wookie Army, and literally cut it in half.

Thus, the birth of the Ewoks. And with a little re-write, there you have it.

(I got this info way back from an early interview with George)...

Now, in the third film, he gets his Wookie army. Thanks to more $$ and CG.

You're not raining on my parade, I'm aware that SOTME is not canon. I was only stating that at one point Lucas and Foster worked on that novel together and it was created in case ANH wasn't succesful, because it would be a very cheap sequel to pull off. I understand Lucas making things canon. But is Aayla Securas stories now canon since she was added to AOTC? It's a tough question that only ends in fellow fanboys fighting and asking for their super rare limited edition Darth Vader figure back from the other. ;)

BTW, I loved that book. I bought it when it first came out. And, I sometimes wish that was the direction that the movies could have followed.

Ah, but some other day.

And, as a question for all: Do you see the STAR WARS films ever getting 're-done', as in re-made, some time down the road, perhaps even by others?

Sort of like how it happens now with Freaky Friday, but not with so much Jamie Lee Curtis.

:D
