  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The first teaser trailer has been released:

There is already controversy on the web over the black storm trooper. But those who have really been following the story know that there had always been non-clone troopers, although the great majority during the Clone War had been clones.

The canon animated series "Star Wars: Clone Wars" established that actual purpose of the clone troopers had been a long-term plot by Palaptine to destroy the Jedi with Order 66. The canon animated series "Star Wars: Rebels" has shown that seven years before the events of "Star Wars: A New Hope," the empire has been training natural-born humans to be storm troopers as a full-scale operation for some time...and it explicitly shows that some of them are black.

Twenty years later (episode 4) it's visually clear (even given the suits) that all the clones are not identical. The new movie takes place thirty years beyond that, when the Empire has been dismantled, and if any remaining imperial clones are still alive, they'd be quite old.

I thought the trailer was good.

Are people really complaining about John Boyega being a Storm Trooper?
I was under the impression that people went to the imperial academy mentioned by Luke in IV to become storm troopers. Well, that would be the lowest rank, at least.
Plus, we don't know why he's a storm trooper. They might not even be storm troopers anymore. The clone army was used like 50 some years before this movie. Does everyone expect them all to still be clones? o_O

The only thing that made me scratch my head was that light saber with the mini-saber hand guard. What purpose could that possibly serve :|

My boyfriend was concerned about the forked lightsaber, but he said he is willing to accept it because it technically was part of the comics after the empire was destroyed.

Yep, yep, and yep.

Yep on that, too. I guess it could come in handing in very close quarters when battling someone else highly skilled with a light saber.

I don't know what the title "The Force Awakens" could mean. I understand that all of the New Republic novels have been officially de-canonized, so there may be no "Jedi Academy" in this new future, but it's hard to imagine that Luke and Leia will just drop it.

Or maybe we'll see the title changed by next year to "The Dark Side Awakens."

Just thought I'd bump this thread since the new/final trailer's out :p

What does everyone think?

It looks great but the tone is very serious. I hope that the movie itself has more of the fun/light hearted side. The original movie managed to get 3-5 good laughs even though Luke lost his aunt, uncle and Obi Wan and Leia lost her entire home planet. I'm sure J.J. & co. know how important humor is to this series but I just hope they were all able to pull that aspect of it off.

I have an idea for the first Star Wars offshoot movie:

"In a world...where Jar Jar Binks sired children...lots of children because he is basically an amphibian...two Jedi try and save the Empire from...

The Children of the Scorn!"

Unlike Ep4 or Ep6, this was written with the knowledge of a guaranteed sequel.

With that given, it had freedom to do nothing more than introduce characters and very basic plot direction, leaving a lot of exposition to be gradually exposed in the next movie. If one wants to think of this as being an extremely extended trailer for the next movie, that idea works, too.

Abrams was in a situation of not pleasing everyone, so he took the least dangerous path. Hard-core SW fankids freak out over changes, so the safest route is to stay right on the beaten path. I think he realized that, and actually used Han Solo to voice it in this movie: "Just blow it up."
