  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I saw on a magazine cover, passing thru the checkout line somewhere, that they're actually going to attempt a live action spin off of star wars for one of the major tv networks. i don't know how i feel about that. I think im only going to watch the main movies that stick within the trilogies. i didn't care for solo or rogue one. and i was afraid disney was going to water them down too. but then again, the first two prequels that lucas did were absolute garbage. he sort of redeemed himself with revenge of the sith since it was a dark and gritty film. but we'll see what disney puts out with the next one coming in December. I hope they end it well.

I've seen most of them. Lost my passion for the series when Disney decided to go the mass market route, rather than the creative effort route. Which is a shame. There's so much untapped market potential there, if only they'd hire passionate, creative people who actually give a darn.

I can't wait for the next Star Wars movie to come out in December. Not because I'm a Star Wars fan but because of all the inevitable YouTube videos that will be posted, hating on the movie. I remember when The Last Jedi was released and video after video was posted on YouTube on how bad this movie was.
People wrote whole essays in the comments section on how this movie was the worst Star Wars movie ever and that Kathleen Kennedy and the director Rian Johnson destroyed Star Wars.

I still haven't seen the movie but I know basically every major plot point that happens in the movie because of all the videos. I've watched some clips on Youtube and there is one scene in particular that baffles me to this day.

I'm still trying to comprehend this scene.
I don't know if this scene was meant to be intentionally hilarious or is just unintentionally hilarious. Rey is happily following Luke but when she realizes what Luke is doing, her face is like "What the..." Luke looks at Rey and does a "That's some good space cow milk." face. Then the space cow turns to Rey and gives a "Yeah, you like what you see?" face. Then Rey turns aways as if to say "I can't even look at you right now." Maybe it makes sense in context of the film but after seeing this I'm about 70% sure that Rian Johnson was trolling Star Wars fans.

I'll admit, I'm a bit of a star wars fan myself. I loved that one scene where they're literally combing the desert with giant combs. ^_^ No wait, that was a different movie... :sorry:

I actually liked the first trilogy with episodes 1-3. Despite it's flaws, it still felt like star wars to me. It's hard to complain with episodes 4-6; they were so imaginative and revolutionary that they are still influencing today's culture, even 4 decades later.

However, I hated the Disney sequels, and it seems many others did as well. I knew they would be controversial and thus was cautiously optimistic, but still expected them to be creative and classic star wars. Although, as soon as I heard the intro theme to episode 7 in the theater, I knew it would be disappointing. It lacked the classic "punch" of the original score, and seemed to foreshadow the overall experience from watching the film itself.

They certainly delivered on it being controversial, in more ways than expected, and the plot for both episodes 7 & 8 seemed like lazy rehashes of the previous films. I can understand having throwbacks to those films, but it should have been more subtle, while giving us a completely new experience. The new films did offer some cool scenes and unique situations - such as the subplot of a storm trooper seeking redemption, and looking at the force in a new way. But overall, the stories were subpar to me and were all over the place, parts felt rushed or unnecessary, I felt no connection to the new characters, the controversial elements were completely pointless and distracting, the acting and dialogue made me sad, there was a lot of "telling" instead of "showing", and they even randomly went against the rules established in previous films - i.e., how can you kamikaze with a ship traveling at light speed when you supposedly enter slip-space? When did Leia learn to fly Superman style.....in space? And why was there no buildup to the revealing and destruction of Starkiller Base? The death stars came across as a highly menacing threat. The third time around they're like: "Hey guess what? We gots another one! And it's bigger, but still has the same weakness!" *blows up soon after*

I think the resolution of various elements should have waited until the last movie in the trilogy, such as Finn's redemption as a storm trooper (that climaxes with his defeat of Phasma, reflecting him completely overcoming his past). I would have also liked to see other elements fleshed out more to help establish a connection with the characters, instead of being tossed in at last minute. I guess we'll see how episode 9 goes.

Now to find that long lost, rumored Christmas special. :p

Of course I love Star Wars, I even like the prequels. Force Awakens was okay, and The Last Jedi was meh. We'll see how The Rise of Skywalker turns out.

Empire is obviously the best.

I still say they need to make a movie centered around Jar Jar Binks who converts to Christianity and slays all the Jedi heathens like Luke Skywalker and the other beloved Star Wars characters.

I am thinking I may skip seeing Star Wars in the theatre this time and wait for the digital version later next year. I don’t like the seeing the previews of other movies before it.
So why don't you just go in late?
I hear what you're saying though. Previews last a good 30 minutes these days. It's crazy.
