Star Trek RPG

Does anyone think that one could ever be made for a video game console? Or is Star Trek too "ship" focussed to be a decent RPG?

If you could create one, what kind of elements would you include?

At first glance, I think weapon variety would be somewhat limited, so that would put it several steps behind KOTOR.

Have you ever played Star Ocean? A lot of that is based around ships, and It's still an awesome RPG. But I agree, a big concern would be weapons. There are only so many variations of phasers and klingon blades that they could put in. I'm sure it could be made to work, though.

Star Trek could easily make a good rpg if it was not very combat orientated. It would also have to be a team or party based game to work at all. The average Star Trek episode consists of some dilemma that a group of people has to work past using their combination of skills and expertises. So while this would be well simulated in an rpg, it would not be of the type that dominates the market these days.

Weapon variety then becomes negligable because if you are only going to be in combat some of the time, (as opposed to having it be your major focus) who cares if you don't have that many weapons?

But it kinda sucked. Got boring too fast and I love Trek games! Bridge Commander was great...

I think it could work well if you took a game like Elite Force and threw in some System Shock 2 type character upgrades or just go with a standard xp/lvl system. It wouldn't necessarily have to be a FPS.

There is a Star Trek MMORPG in development that looks promising.

Just improving some of the current pc titles would be fine, elite force has thrown togeather poorly but elite force 2 had nice graphics and all of em could be adapted easily to console systems I think. Out of either of those 2 I didn't notice any problems with not having enuff weapons. I guess the only real draw back to em would have been you were a fed officer an that was that, so you couldn't have other race equipment and the like. I think a combo between RPG and ship action would make a great game on a console that's dedicated to graphics an th like.
