  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why are you barking orders to another poster? Funny, I've never see you tell NHE enough.

I guess NHE never hit such a sensitive nerve -- you know how Conservatives get when you mock their intellectual giants

I highly doubt the audience was expecting a great intellectual feat from the speaker.
Nor is that what is expected of Obama on the View.
Sound bytes and one liners rule the day.
Ergo threads like these

So she was talking at the level of her target audience. I'm surprised that they don't consider Seuss too "elite" -- what with him being all edumacational and whatnot.
Using humor to make a point is basic for good public speaking. Only the left don't find it funny, because they were the dupes of the Obama lies.
That is what has really struck the nerve here.

Interesting comparison between a visit to a television show to being a key-note speaker at the national conservative convention.

LOL

I will agree that both The View and CPAC provide a bunch of worthless crap, the only difference is we expect it from the View.

I think you have made a really big error her.

You see, humor can stand even if one disagrees with it! I used to laugh at some of Rush Limbaugh's stuff back in the day!

What you seem to fail in the logic category is that simply because Sarah attempted some humor by finding and verbally re-posting someone else's stuff to the air doesn't mean it is ipso facto funny!

There are times when Jon Stewart lambastes a Democrat and I find it hilarious!

The FUNNY part is that the Right LOVES Sarah and thinks that just anything that crawls out of her pie-hole is brilliance of the highest order!

C'mon, man, you HAVE to see that Sarah Palin is hardly a bright bulb. She has repeatedly failed pretty much everything after the beauty pagent in 1984.

When she was running for VP of the US she didn't even know the extent of the VP's role in the Senate!!! She can't name a single newspaper she reads! She can barely put together a coherent sentence!!!

The weirdest thing to those of us on the Left is that you on the Right love her so much that even when she grabs someone else's stuff or scribbles notes on her palm like a junior high kid she's still the most insightful person you can imagine!

PLEASE, find SOMEONE on the Right who can actually be CLEVER AND INSIGHTFUL AND KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT!

Palin, June 2: "[Revere] warned the British that they weren't going to be taking away our arms, by ringing those bells and making sure as he was riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free."

Palin upon being asked about the Pledge of Allegiance: "Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance." (Pledge was written in 1892...the founding fathers were long gone by then)

Palin inventing new offices in US Government: "I think on a national level your department of law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we've been charged with and automatically throw them out."

Palin Geography: "They are also building schools for the Afghan children so that there is hope and opportunity in our neighboring country of Afghanistan."

I know Palin is compelling to the Right because she's...ummm...I dunno, willing to speak without thinking first, but speak forcefully.

This is why us "librul elites" find her disturbing. She's demonstrably ill-educated and seems to be wrong far more often than she's right.

So the mystery remains: why do you guys love her so much????

Interesting -- and fitting.

You see a difference?

There was a time that the office of the presidency carried with it a little dignity and expectation though, that typically would exceed that of a key-note speaker.

Those on the left expect more from Sarah Palin than they do of President Obama though. The Tonight Show, Between the Two Ferns, Saturday Night Live, The Daily Show, American Idol are very good 'intellectual' fits actually, for the kind of message that Obama has to sell, and that is the venue from which he chooses to deliver it to his audience on the left.

Rather, the message of the left is all farce, from the top on down. Even this righteous indignation here against Sarah Palin for rhyming with Seuss is farce. There is nothing serious about the criticism, and this thread is as serious as the left is about anything.

From the top on down, it is a message fit for the Colbert Report, and more and more that is the media from which it is delivered.
Sarcasm and mocking derision are what the left recognizes as intellectual content. There is never an argument for their values or even against the values of their opponents, because the only value that motivates the left any more is more free stuff.

Obama makes light-hearted appearances on television shows and gives serious speeches. It seems to me that you cannot differentiate between the two.

Apparently CPAC is meant to not be taken seriously.

I will ignore the rest of your broad-brushed rant against the left.

Who cares about dignity and respect? Sarah Palin was in the running to be VP of the US.

If anyone should show dignity and respect it should be her...yet even when she was running for that office she had no idea what the role was in regards to the Senate!!!

I have no problem with a president having a sense of humor or playing it up once in a while...I have a SERIOUS problem with a person running for elected office if they don't even know what that office does!

That is the ULTIMATE denigration of an office
.

You are WRONG WRONG WRONG. I'd be OK if Sarah Palin made jokes etc! She's human and its a rhetorical skill!

The problem ISN'T that Sarah is Sarah...it's that Sarah represents for people on the Right some avatar of all virtues when anyone can see that she has almost NONE of those virtues.

It isn't that she made a ha-ha lift of someone else's internet posting for a laugh! It's that she is among the least informed public speakers in America.

And YOU GUYS give her the bully pulpit.

And then you want us all to think Obama is bad for whatever reason.

Everyone I know on the Left thinks Obama has done some pretty horrible things....but ironically enough those AREN'T the things that Sarah Palin talks about!

Sarah tells lies about "death panels" and Sarah makes jokes about Obamacare when that isn't the problem!

Sarah is aiming at a president who can easily be critiqued...but she's shooting so wide of the mark that she may as well be hunting wolves from a helicopter!

Sarah Palin is a moron.

And it is PAINFUL to see the words of a moron lavished with such incredible praise and high regard by people who should know better.
