  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How do you guys feel about standing in the gap?

I was reading this morning in Ezekiel and in chpater 22:30 The Lord is speaking and He says " I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one."

Sometimes I forget that we need to stand in the gap for people against the principalities of evil that are amongst us in this world. There are spiritual influences happening that we do not see, but we can control with prayer. I forget this sometimes. Most times.

What about you?

I guess every day we are supposed to stand in the gap, not that it is easy.

Romans 12:2 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

I'm with you Michelle, I don't spend that much time trying to keep others from doing hurtful things to others as I'm not around others that want to hurt people. Plus in general I believe in letting others live their own life.

Might be good to have a definition of what standing in the gap means.

I think I generally had an idea that it meant to pray for our governmental leaders.
I think when I read this thread I was thinking for those around us. Taking this as a meaning, I used to pray a lot along this line, but observed that my prayers didn't seem to help any make the decision that I thought was wise. So I put my energy else where.

I absolutely beleive in standing in the gap. My Gf and I got a confirmation just a few weeks ago conserning this. We came across a young girl maybe 19 or 20 who was literally lost on every level. Geograpahically, spiritually and emotionally. My GF hugged her gave her words of encouragement and wisdom and saw to it she got a ride home. I use the word home liberally because her home environment seemed to be the root of her problem. We also told her of a church she should visit in her home town that my son belongs to. Anyway that was a Sunday morning and at church that day as the alter call our pastor spoke about those coming forward to stand as representitives of those in our lives that can't stand for theirselves. The timing was just too awesome!

dayhiker here is a link that explains how I meant it. Not just about praying, but we should remember that just because we don't "see" the results of our prayers does not mean that they didn't work or are ineffective. We might not be there to see the answer, that's part of faith IMO.

Against the false prophets who declare to the people 'the will of the Lord', but the declaration is one they made up themselves.

I stood in the gap in a small way a long ago, during the G W Bush re-election campaign. I wrote to some of the Christians I knew from my time as a member of a Church, that claiming G W Bush was right based on his standing as a true Christian was contrary to the Biblical standard.

The claim that all he did was good because he was a true believer and followed the will of God was the other way around from scripture

where it was stated that a person was to be judged by the nature of his deeds, not the deeds by the claimed nature of the person.

But Billy Graham had approved of G W Bush and they ignored me and ceased to reply to anything I wrote after that. Evidently I was taken to be the false prophet.
