Stand-Up Christians?

It seems today Christians in the media are constantly being made into bad names. From concerns arising with the homosexuality movement, which we have yet to make unified stand on, (i pray that we are not fools forgetting Romans 1 and 2), to the war in Iraq.

The media has portrayed the christian preacher as a fornicator, liar, thief, and a money hungry scoundrel. We are not this way at all. One activist said she was a recovering Chirstian as if there was a 12 step program or support groups. My friend the other day said he did not want to be called a Christian because of the way it was portrayed in the media. Well I am a Christian... and when did the media get rights to the name Christian? How can you deface a name you don't own? To be a Christian is to be Christ like (or follower).


I say we make a statement. I don't know how but we've got to make the name Christian mean something. Maybe it starts with one person at a time, someone we pass everyday. You always here about people who once were christians as children, but what about the new converts? many complain about how strict the faith was- but everyone respected and knew, know we have become the punchline, its a shame this problem is no laughing matter. I can't even watch tv unless its a church channel or news station(sometimes not even the news). Where are all the Stand-Up Christians?

The servant hearts of Ralph Reed, Dr James Dobson, Pat Robertson, Rev James Kennedy, and our allies in Orthodox Jewish and Roman Catholic groups (and even among friendly atheists!) are examples of how we have engaged the culture and political process.

The only real image of Christianity as the world sees it can be summed up in Ned Flanders,

We are anoying, intolerante "Bible thumpers"

without growing up in a Christian environment they look to the media to define and shape their views.

And the media dosn't exatly portray Christanity in a good light.

pray for your non Christian friends that you may be the light in their life, you may be the only Jesus they see

Rejoice when you are persecuted says our Lord. This is nothing unusual. We true Christians have been maligned by the phoney ones (not true Christians at all) for ages. Even the Apostle Paul said there phoney (false) Christians in his day.

What can you say when someone you know says Christians are hypocrites? I tell them to look at me. Examine my life. Judge the claims of Jesus Christ by who I am and how I live. The fact that there are real life true Christians in their circle of friends undermines all the media hype. All it takes is one of us true Bible-believing born againers plus the Spirit of God. What they see in my life is so much more convincing than all the media hype. They realize they're being lied to by the media.
