This year I have to do some of the OT readings on G&H Saturday Vesperal DL

English doesn't worry me - GodPapa's finger comes down on my book and I read - no problem , However this year , I , who do not speak Ukrainian, am to do at least one in Ukrainian - so of course I chose the shortest one.

Pulled it up online and have been slowly getting to grips with it and yes I can do it - not fluently , but I can manage it. I've not learnt it - I am reading it.

Today while typing stuff for GodPapa I discover that the readings booklet [ for those who are reading ] has a different version / translation , and the wretch has said I'm to use that one - not the one with which I am now familiar . There's just enough differences to be a nuisance

AND I've still to get another one prepared as well - and he's not told me which !

All this is to try and encourage the Irish Ukrainians to actually read in Ukrainian if not in English , using the principle that if I do , they can.

Got a job offer from NZ. Any Kiwis here? I'd greatly appreciate some insight. What are the trends in economy? How's the software industry standing? What's, by their opinion, in rough numbers, monthly cost of living for a family of five (rent included)? I've done some research on the web, but would like to hear someone from here too.

To move ~elsewhere~ to work at a better job, you have to

a) Plan ahead
b) How to move your cargo
c) How much is it going to cost
d) Information needed to fill out forms & paperwork
e) Navigating from the airport to where you want to move

etc stuff like that.

b,d,e - done for me by the company the offer came from. First month apartment rental - the same. I'm more concerned with what comes afterwards, mostly in the long run.

I'm an Aussie and can't give details, but I'm nearby. There's a long running rivalry between the two countries but it's mostly in fun.

NZ is a wonderful place to live and people are very friendly, I'm not sure about cost of living but it seems alright as far as my experience.

I might try that, but I have very little hope the ones here could provide accurate info and advice on relocating to NZ. Thanks Wesley, I'm still gonna try and visit a few agencies.

It doesn't - you're right , but these folk have really made me welcome and I feel part of their Community [ and for a non-Uke to be welcomed and treated the way they treat me is really something ]

They know that I'm very very short of confidence , and for me to read in Ukie is a real effort - as it is for them to read in English - BUT they cannot expect my GodPapa [ who is their Chanter for 'big' occasions ] to chant everything for all the Services in Great and Holy Week on his own. He needs help !

The difference is they use English in their everyday lives - I hear Ukie once a week . I still can't manage everything in the Liturgy in Ukie . But I CAN read albeit slowly, so I will.

Housing and living costs vary considerably, depending upon where in New Zealand you live - Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown are the most expensive places. It can be hard finding good rentals in Christchurch, due to housing shortages resulting from the earthquakes two years ago. I think the economy is starting to look up slightly, but don't know anything about the software industry.

Let me know if there is any specific information you'd like about NZ. I can also help with local Orthodox Church and Christian contacts.
