  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why do some people like CCM again? It simply does not compute.

Different strokes. Doesn't validate the thin, brittle and often just plain wrong theology, though.

Contemporary Christian Music.

Gotcha. Ok. No, I really don't like it. There are a couple of Christian 'alternative' bands from the 90s that I still listen to every once in a while, but other than that...no. That 'contemporary' stuff (and I'm thinking like, Michael W Smith and the like) make me want to stab pencils into my ears.

You articulate me perfectly. :)

I actually find great amusement at listening to some of the very Christian themes in classic rock music. A recent discovery, "Who Are You" by The Who. Read the lyrics...it reads kind of like a modern Mary of Egypt being stunned upon meeting Jesus. The best line in the song is the last one, "I spit out like a sewer hole, and still receive your kiss. How can I measure up to anyone, after such a love as this?"

As for CCM....I prefer to keep my entertainment and my worship compartmentalized...

Sorry

There is a time for praying, and then there is the time for listening to Pink Floyd.

I think the Apostle Paul would beg to differ.

No, I honestly don't think he would. When praying it is not appropriate to behave like you are at a rock concert. It is not appropriate to have music like you would listen to at a rock concert, either. If you want to listen to Gilmour get a massive guitar jam on during a song like "A Great Day for Freedom" that is fine, just don't pretend to be praying while listening to Gilmour lament the breakup of the band prior to the Momentary Lapse of Reason CD.
