Thanks all for the congrats!

I'll post some pictures as soon as I get them.

WooHoo! I got a 59 out of 60 points on my C++ programming final. The only reason I even lost that one point is because that professor never awards a perfect grade for a computer program, since there is always a more efficient way to write a program. My husband laughed and shook his head in disbelief when I told him that C++ was an easy A. LOL Not sure yet what my grade for the semester is, but I do know that it is at least a 94%.

My program solves the quadratic equation when the user inputs values for a, b, & c.
Could I borrow that program this next winter when I take Precalculus II?

Please? :sorry:

I just got an e-mail +Met. Jonah is coming to visit our little mission next month.
Cool

I like building things. They are like a puzzle. But the materials I am comfortable building with are NOT numbers and equations. The materials I am comfortable using are wood, screws, stone, concrete, etc. Numbers and I really do not get along in most cases. The only place where numbers turn out to be my friend is when they are on a tape measure or when they are shutter speed/iso/aperature.

LOL

You start really understanding mathematics when you realize that there are no numbers.

Pffft. Now I'm on a hunt to find my immunization records. The college I'm transferring to requires 2 MMR's but I can only find where I've had 2 Measles and only 1 Mumps and Rubella...so somehow I made it through elementary, middle, junior and high school and State University and a community college with nobody realizing this until now? WTH?

I understand spatial geometry very well, just do not ask me to put numbers into an equation to prove it!

My dad knows assembly, from they days when he had to program very bad computers to make them do experimental physics things.

I don't know what he's talking about when he talks science most of the time though :p

I'll stick to real languages - greek, german, english... warlpiri, andyamthanana, yolngu matha... :p

(actually i don't speak anything of the last three, i've just been working with them all semester for one of my classes)

I was just browsing another Orthodox forum and saw a thread about the episcopal assembly in NY. It was.... interesting reading.

(i.e. see: "heated debate between OCA poster and somewhat 'ethnic' GOAA poster who considers the idea of OCA having autocephaly an abomination. One thinks Met. Jonah is great and calls "many years", the other described him as a "naughty kid".)

LOL, no thank you. I'll leave that to bigger nerds than me.

I enjoyed doing assembly at engineering school (thanks for the flowers :p). But you'd need a special kind of a job to do that professionally these days. I'm not missing it. I tend not to miss technology, I guess that means part of me is still sort-of human :p.

There is such a thing? (Sorry, you stepped right into that one!)

My husband. Shall I count the ways?
  • I will post a pic of the antenna that he made so we can get a few more channels a little bit later.
  • He also made an extension tube for the camera, to get not just super macro...but in your FACE macro.
  • He wrote a computer program that generates odd names for RPGs (like World of Warcraft).
  • We have a computer named Frankenstein which he built from parts of other computers.
  • He hacked the coin washer/dryer in our apt building so that we can use pennies instead of quarters to do our laundry...saving us $1.44 per load. (And no, i don't feel bad or guilty about this.)
  • He looks at websites with names like "Lifehacker" and "Hack a Day"
  • He taught himself how to use Autodesk Maya. It's the program Pixar uses to make movies like Toy Story.
  • Most of his possessions when he moved in were boxes and boxes and boxes of computer parts.
But then again...my husband is Superman, and he also races chariots...so even though he's a nerd, he's pretty darn awesome.

This list was just off the top of my head.

Google "Poor man's macro" and you'll find a wealth of info. Originally he was going to use a Pringles can to do it, but I found the parts from a telescope that he took apart last year and thought it would be more aesthetically pleasing. :D

Honestly, it is SO close up that I find little use for it. He loves it though, and was taking some pics of a mosquito hawk yesterday. He posted them on his blog: http:// silverplasticbox.wordpress.com/2010/05/27/mosquito-hawk-am-i-invading-its-personal-space/

You are talking to Mr. Useless Lens! I just got a Tamron 11-18 mm UEBER wide angle lens! You should see the fisheye pic I took of my rose trellis!

LOL You have no idea how badly I want a fisheye lens. If I get a Lensbaby, I can get a fisheye attachment for pretty cheap. I can't justify spending very much on one of those.

Mine only cost $350. That is like 1/3 of what it cost brand new. AND it was made for the Nikon DX cameras, which means it doesn't have the 1.5 crop factor that most lenses have when attached to the DX camera! Thus it really is 11-18 mm! SCHWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!
