  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

morning TAW

We started Handel's Messiah last night in choir...2 hours of listening to the conductor go on about how it's Baroque, not Romantic music, so stop singing it as such! :p

When I was about 14 my father took my sister and I to a concert presentation of Handel's "Messiah"...

Well, I'm not sure if it was the choir or the music, but most of the audience was asleep until the "Hallelujah" Chorus came up! ^_^

On a different note, in High School, it was tradition every Christmas for the Concert Choir to sing the Hallelujah Chorus. During this time, Choir alumni were invited to sing with the present Choir. It was a wonderful tradition that everyone loved.

Sadly, the choir director passed away from cancer at the age of 53 in 2000. At her Memorial Service, she had the pastor read a letter that she had written in anticipation of her death. She said that she wanted no crying or sobbing, only rejoicing, knowing we would meet again someday. To drive the point home, she then had all choir members past and present come up to sing the "Hallelujah" chorus one last time in her memory.

I cried the whole time.

*comes in and pouts*

The big organ in the auditorium (96 ranks) has been struck by lightning, is wacked out, and it will probably be another 2 months until it's fixed.

Thank God for churches with nice pipe organs that are friendly to students wanting to come in and practice. :p
