When a peach tree is so loaded with peaches, you need to prop the branches up with a 2x4. You will see peach farmers do this all of the time. Then when the peaches are gone, you can remove the board.

Now you tell me. This is my first summer here and thus the first time I have had a peach tree. Oh well, the one branch completely just snapped off.

It will grow back, in about five years.

You may want to go to Home Depot, or Lowe's or a nursery and get some sealer for that wound. Insects can get in there and kill the tree. The branch is probably a goner, so tying it back up may not work. You may have to finish sawing the thing off eventually if it is still partially attached. (after the peaches are harvested) Ask your favorite nursery person what to do, though.

We try to prune our trees every year. We don't do a heavy pruning job, but we do remove any suckers and branches that cross over so that during wind storms there is less damage to the branches and fruit.

I left New Valamo yesterday and drove about 400 miles north to our cabin that is about 20 miles from the Russian border and 60 miles south of the arctic circle. It was only about 39 Degrees when I got in just after midnight. It's so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Love it!
Now it's time for some breakfast and then organizing for fishing.

My uncles who were watching over the property for my Grandpap who has alzheimers and couldn't do that sort of thing have not pruned any of these trees, other than the peach trees, in years.

My day has not started off well at all. I came in to two e-mails, two faxes, and a voice-mail looking for paperwork that I had faxed to the Philippines on 8/17.

It drives me crazy to run around all morning doing something that was already done! Especially when the problem is most likely on their end!

We started Handel's Messiah last night in choir...2 hours of listening to the conductor go on about how it's Baroque, not Romantic music, so stop singing it as such!

I love Handel's Messiah. Especially, "He shall feed His flock like a Shepherd". The first time I visited an Orthodox Church, the choir sang it and I was so blessed. It was a western rite Antiochian church.

we did that when I was in College...My favorite was "For unto us a Child is borne"...

Wonderful promise, but I get lost in the y y y y y y y y's. My voice doesn't move that quickly.

"Lift up your heads, oh ye gates" is also wonderfully inspiring.

I love singing Baroque music...the "moving the voice quickly" part is really fun.
