I fnd it incredible that he could be without a steering wheel -- but then he's Irish - that says it all

My supersoaker came at the time of the others - it was a wonderful pressie from the originating genius

get ready to duck cuz it looks like some nasty weather is moving in. It's black over Willoughby and I can hear the rumbles already. I hope it brings some rain, it's sooo dry here.

sweet: so i just got a short-term full time temp job today [hoorah for paying the bills]. which is great news that had me going jiggy. BUT better news is i just found a couple job listings for MATHEMATICIANS that i could try for. now, one requires several years of experience and may be out of my league, but the other is precisely the sort of thing i'm after. i'll try for both, of course, but it should be grand. anything not to have to sell out and become some sort of finance drone...

AND i got a drafting table today so i can actually like do work without killing myself. because it's hard to write on a level surface, it should be raised. unfortuantely, lacking a computer desk, it's working as a computer desk at the moment. BUT that should change once i get a real computer desk.

There's also something weird with the loading...every time I try to load a CF page, the window which indicates my wireless isn't on and I need to chose a line connection pops up, only obviously my wireless is working fine...this is only for CF pages.

It's not a "normal" job, but let me tell you about it

It's in my hometown. There was an ad in the newspaper on Wed, I called, sent a resume, and then interviewed today. At the end of the interview, the director up and offered me the job!!! I am the new general music teacher for a local charter school. A charter school is kinda a cross between a private school and a public school, because it is publically funded (no tuition fees) but it creates its own alternative curriculum. It IS a real teaching job, k-5, but they're a small school (120 kids) so I will only be working part time, as there are only 7 classes of kids to teach a week. I don't get any benefits, but the hourly wage I'll be making is close to what a FT salaried teacher would make per hour. It's an internationally, multiculturally focused school, with a mixture of kids whose first language is English and kids whose first language is Russian, Chinese, Korean, Turkish, Spanish, etc. So all kids learn English, as well as take classes in Chinese and Spanish. They try to teach a broad world-view and technology as other bases of curriculum.

I'm going to also be working part-time in my local starbucks, making poopy pay, but hopefully getting benefits after being there for 3 months.

So, I can live at home and have very limited expenses (which will go with my very limited pay!) but really get a first-year teaching experience under my belt and have an unusual classroom environment!

Good to hear, CF!I remember being that age and being treated as unqualified for anything. Even my Navy experience didn't help.Charter schools are better than public as such, in direct proportion to the greater freedom they have from the state.That's unfortunate about the benefits, but that could mean the school really does have a free hand if they're not getting a whole lot of state support. Hope that you can eventually get the good position with the bennies. In any event, it's doing what you want to do, so go for it and God bless!

Happy Early Birthday Michael!!!!It's your ultra Orthodox birthday.... 3-3!!!! YAY!!!!I'm going to Kinko's tomorrow (well, today if you're on the east coast). Don, we got a good soaking and some serious thunder and lightning. Fortunately it held up when we had a bunch of people over for dinner. Ahhh, them nutty Navy boys.
