I GOT A JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


It's not a "normal" job, but let me tell you about it


It's in my hometown. There was an ad in the newspaper on Wed, I called, sent a resume, and then interviewed today. At the end of the interview, the director up and offered me the job!!! I am the new general music teacher for a local charter school. A charter school is kinda a cross between a private school and a public school, because it is publically funded (no tuition fees) but it creates its own alternative curriculum. It IS a real teaching job, k-5, but they're a small school (120 kids) so I will only be working part time, as there are only 7 classes of kids to teach a week. I don't get any benefits, but the hourly wage I'll be making is close to what a FT salaried teacher would make per hour. It's an internationally, multiculturally focused school, with a mixture of kids whose first language is English and kids whose first language is Russian, Chinese, Korean, Turkish, Spanish, etc. So all kids learn English, as well as take classes in Chinese and Spanish. They try to teach a broad world-view and technology as other bases of curriculum.

I'm going to also be working part-time in my local starbucks, making poopy pay, but hopefully getting benefits after being there for 3 months.

So, I can live at home and have very limited expenses (which will go with my very limited pay!) but really get a first-year teaching experience under my belt and have an unusual classroom environment!

Yay!

He's been wanting me to take a trip with him to the old country sometime so I can see what he's talking about. (I'm guessing that's on hold for an even longer while than it was before!).

Man drove without steering wheel

A Gentles man who admitted to driving for 8 months without a steering wheel was summoned before a recent sitting of Donegal district court.

Twenty eight year old painter and decorator , Edward McDermott , 28 Hyde Road , Gentles pleaded not guilty to the offense , which happened on the 6th of March 2006. Gd. Ultan Crosbie told the court that he was undertaking a routine checkpoint on the Killybegs to Donegal road when he noticed Mr McDermot's Renault Megane " had no steering wheel ". Asked why there was no steering wheel , McDermott responded that he "had taken it off in November [ 8 months ago ] to put on a soft furry grip and completely forgot to put it back on". McDermott assured Gda. Crossbie that this " did not impair the driving of the car as he could steer perfectly well using a combination of the handbrake , the clutch and a pair of shoelaces "

Judge O'Loughlin found the defendant not guilty and reprimanded Gda. Crosbie for wasting court time.
