When you say that the procedure is disused, do you mean it isn't any longer being used or is that a typo?
No typo. The last lobotomy was performed in the US in 1967. ( I thought it was later than that)
Germany, Japan, the UK and USSR outlawed the procedure in the 1950s.

Then why did you say ID was part of the Theistic Evolution model?
By ID I meant the idea that an intelligent designer is the cause of our universe. Theistic evolution has that premise as its foundation.

Obviously, because (as he keeps claiming) the ID model has nothing to do with religion!
Ow, wait........
Are you claiming that theistic evolution has nothing to do with religion? Please not that the definition of the word "theistic" itself involves religion by default.

Wait... isn't ID supposed to be a model of biology?

I suggest you google for the definition.

BTW
Please note that this thread is about the split brain phenomenon and not about an ID or theistic evolution. If indeed you wish to discuss and ID there is another thread that deals with it on this forum and we can discuss it there. Thanks!

Germany, Japan, the UK and USSR outlawed the procedure in the 1950s.
That procedure did far more damage than the severing of connections between the two hemispheres. I believe that they did it by introducing something via the edge of the upper rim of the eye socket and swished it around in the frontal lobe. Had the effect of drastically reducing the person's willpower. The film: "One FLew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" has a scene illustrating the effect.

There may be some confusion - the OP wasn't about lobotomy, but the split-brain operation (corpus callosotomy) which is still done as a last-resort attempt to control serious epileptic seizures.

I thought you guys were supposed to pretend that the designer wasn't actually the Christian God in disguise.

I strive to keep the discussion on neutral ground but since I get religiously oriented responses I am sometimes forced to respond along religious lines.

I really hate to see myself say things like this but......

Videos like the ones in this thread make me wonder if the Atheists are somewhat on track in that we are just a compilation of cells and synapses and dendrites or whatever they are called, firing away in our grey matter and we have no soul. Just a set o responses determined by our experiences, values, and genetic structure.

I really hate thinking that way because the thought of a human soul is beautiful to me. These videos seem to show it is our brains that make us who we are evidenced by the two separate natures of our brains desiring different things and like it was said one being a theist and one an atheist. There are essentially two consciousnesses inside us and we are only scratching the surface about what our brains are capable of and really do for us. Where does the soul live? Sorry to go on and on but it tugs at the question of the nature of our very existence.

I still will always believe in God just because my logic tells me everything that has been created need a creator and to assign an all powerful deity to it just answers the question for me. Still though why are we here? Do we have a soul or just a complex brain?

I better get to confession

I just have to ask... How / In what way does that answer the question for you?

Very simply. For example, when someone builds a chair, they start off with nothing, cut and fit all the pieces together and when they are done you have a chair.

I believe that God has done that with the universe. I believe This deity or actually more like a creative force has no beginning. It decided to create and put something together and it made a universe. Like the chair, before you had the materials, after you have a chair. Before God had some materials and after there was a universe. All the religion stuff is just about how you want to attempt to communicate with that creative force but I just can't fathom there not being a creator for creation. It just doesn't make sense to me. It's like having an effect with no cause What can I say? I'm a sheep!
