    Hi!

I'm new to this forum, and working with spirit guides/beings is part of what I believe.

I've heard the bible regards this as evil. I've also heard it can be considered a spiritual gift. (Obviously, I believe the latter!) :) I would be interested in hearing what Christians believe about this, and why it is considered wrong.

    Thanks!!

In a nutshell, Christians believe any sort of supernatural communication
that isn't revealed to you via God/Jesus is coming from something either
wanting to draw you away from God/Jesus, or something not of God/Jesus,
and wicked/evil/not correct in either case. Fundamental to this belief
is the faith that God/Jesus is the true path. Several people on the board
can probably give you specific scriptural references. I've also seen it
posited (not here, but other sites) that spirits that seem known to you
    are actually demons.

    Hello.
Well, what follows is just personal opinion, I am not saying it's the absolute truth, right?

Well, I believe in the influence of spirit beings on our lifes. I saw and learn some impressive things. For good and not-so-good ways. that's why we are called to pray and watch your thoughts, in order of not attract our brothers that are still to saw the light. So, is nothing right or wrong about the Spirits per se. It's just a natural law. It's just people, like us, without the carnal body.Like people, some go and do good things, some...

If it's a spiritual gift? Some believe it's, somehow, the opposite: "To those who receive a lot, a lot is asked for". It's quite a responsability.

Well, I don't know if this is "promoting another religion", but, if you want a Christian view of the subject, look for Kardec books, specially "The gospel According to Spiritism" and "The Book of Spirits"

    Peace of Christ

    Hi Coyote,

I do agree with watching your thoughts, and praying. I also feel protection is important. Some spirits were not so good in life, and that may not change after death. I have felt negative spirits around me (and it was a very bad, toxic feeling), but I have not been actually harmed by them-just really uncomfortable. I either block them out, or leave the situation where they are, and that has worked for me so far. I actually work closely with just one, and thats about where I'm most comfortable! :)

And as for gift or responsibility, I would say both.

    Blessings!

Well, there can be differences in beliefs on what they are, so I'm not sure how to clarify it exactly. My own beliefs would be that I can receive guidance from the spirits of those who have lived before, and I may or may not have known them in this lifetime. I believe they continue to learn after they die, and they can help you learn from this. I think you prearrange this before you are born.

That probably doesnt answer your question, but I hope it helps! :)

    Blessings!

Well, the Bible speaks against "familiar spirits" but I think these are limited in the application, whereas most Christians denounce EVERYTHING of spirit form... some even go so far as to deny angels visitations.

My medicine animals or totems are sometimes considered spirit guides and hence I'm condemned by a lot of Christians as being a pagan. Yet I'm a Christian who beleives in Jesus Christ as my saviour. I have had communication from medicine animals/spirits, Buffalo, Raven, Wolf & Hawk. If we look in scripture we see that many of the prophets had animal visions appear to them, and angels "guide" them. So its a matter of where we draw the line.

As a Christian I personally test the spirit to see if it admits Christ is Lord and that it serves the will of God. Thats safe and is also a test presented in 1 John 4:1 - 6. Such a test wouldn't be there in the Bible if there were not spirits that were both in harmony with God, and some that were not. So for those Christians who denounce all spirits, I ask, why is 1 John 4:1 - 6 even there if all spirits are against God??

These devils believed that Jesus Christ was the Son of God too. You're playing with fire.
Matthew 8: 29 "And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?"

These so called "spirit guides" are often promoted by Pagans. I used to be a Wiccan and when I was, I also believed in "spirit guides". My best friend who used to be heavily involved in the Occult believed he had a "spirit guide". But in all actuality, these so called "spirit guides" are nothing more than demons and I warn you to stay away from such things!

I think there is nothing wrong with spirit guides, you just need to have discernment.

Spirit Guides or anyother Spirit cannot harm unless you let them to. Some can give valuable information to you.

Grr, I forgot the scriptures at home, but in Job 4 & 5 it speaks of a spirit passing by the mans face and he gets goosebumps when the spirit manifests visibly. Also in Hebrews where it says we've come to the new jerusalem and an innumerable company of angels, it also says we've come to "the spirits of just men made perfect."

Ravenwolf said it in a nutshell... its all about discernment. Why else would God give as a gift of the spirit "discernment of spirits." in 1 Corinthians 12, and have the test of the spirits in 1 John 4.

I personally do not play with so called "spirits of the dead." There can be danger there, and I'm reminded of the Samuel incident with Saul summoning him through the witch. But what about natural God given spirits? Native totems are not evil. Zechariah 6 even mentions the 4 spirit keepers of the 4 directions..... hmmmm?

For awhile I was involved in a baptist church, and some very legalistic pentecostal churches. Those "blinders" (scales) that the apostle Paul had removed from his eyes seemed to cover the spiritual eyes of MANY in those churches.

From the age of 19 to 23 I practiced satanism, Crowley rituals, Wicca, Key of Solomon, and some homemade rituals combining all of them together. I KNOW what demons are Holly! I invoked them, evoked them, called them & banished them. I saw some wierd and powerful things happen.

I've been saved almost 20 years and I can tell you I do not call or seek familiar spirits. That WOULD be wrong. But when a spirit COMES TO YOU and initiates contact, we should then TEST the spirit. It goes beyond having the spirit admit Chist is Lord because demons can and will admit that. They must admit that they are servants or obediant to Gods will.

I had a very large blonde angelic come to me early last year and accuse me of being a false prophet. the dude would have wieghed 300 pounds in the natural and built like a professional wrestler. His tone of speach & accusation was such I KNEW it was not from God. I spun on the spirit and said "False Jesus! I command you to leave in the name of Jesus!" The big oaf stumbled backwards into my bathroom, tripped over the bathtub and shattered into what appeared to be blue glassy dust. I then proceded to run water in my bathtub to rid the place of any residual negative energies left by the evil spirit.

Bottom line is, it is SATAN who is the accuser of the brethren. That "angel" lied and accused. If he was true I would not have prevailed. I'd have been staggering myself and slumping into the wall as I did when a spirit named Maia came before. One was of God, the other wasn't. You CAN discern and tell the difference.

Please don't be stuck in a box like religious view that doesn't allow for things that the scriptures approve & explain if we would ask God for help understanding & dealing with them.

Unless this "spirit guide" is the Holy Spirit, it is unbiblical.

Yup. The only spirit you should be asking for is the Holy Spirit.

Are you serious? I find this very hard to believe. Why haven't i ever seen spirits like this? I would be interested to know more about the spirits people have seen. I've never seen any spirits like starcrystal says she saw...

I know this is unpopular around these necks of the woods, but I will say it anyway: you have no control of spirits. They have control over you unless you have Christ working in your life. I can attest to it as well as many others who understand these spirits.

If you think that you have control, it truly is a lie. You are being manipulated and are being made to look as if you have the control. Those spirits are false markers of what divinity really is. You can not see it because you are blind to the spiritual realm. You think that Christians are blind or not knowledgeable, namely because we do not venture into that realm, but the truth is the opposite . In this case, wisdom is not in doing, but knowing not to do.

I hope some of you will wake up and at least listen sometimes instead of continuing as if you have never heard the warnings. Those of us who are close to Christ see your error, but unfortunatley it does not help you any, it appears. This is no laughing matter folks.

Any information that you can get may come to be true, but that can only benefit you here on earth. All things that are good are not from God. That is a basic spiritual truth from Bilble. Those demons that you contact have been around for eons. They do not die. They accumulate knowlegde over time. They learn how to emulate almost anything that is good in an attemt to distort God's word. They know how to manipulate you without your consent.

Actually the Holy Spirit could not be a spirit guide in their context. Biblically, the Holy Spirit is part of God's own nature existing with us. That hardly seems like a spirit guide. It is God, Himself guiding us. It is not a secondary or tertiary source as it seems from the posts. I think I understand what you mean, but just wanted to make clarity.
