  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

haha - yes I was rotund, for sure, but it does feel good to be at a normal weight and I'm extremely active now - I run, lift weights and practice Krav Maga - I am grateful and always happy to share my experience if it helps others
How do you find the Krav Maga? I did one session the better part of a year ago but it was too far to travel. There is another group which is closer but it's still a fair distance and there is the problem of time.

It doesn't seem to be common form of martial arts, at least not around here.

And if I had lost your weight I'd be minus 20 pounds and would blow away with the next breeze!:lost:

So I'm wondering what you think about the Krav Maga?

There's lots of low calorie foods that add bulk to your diet without adding many calories. A high fiber diet can aid weight loss because it actually requires more calories to metabolize foods that are higher in fiber, as compared to lower fiber foods (this is part of the Thermic Effect of Food. Another factor is the protein content of food, since the body has to expend more energy to burn protein as a fuel, vs. carbohydrates or fat).

If you are trying to lose weight, it's good to substitute pasta or rice with foods like skinny noodles or palm hearts, both of which are mostly fiber and water. Even raw carrots are good to eat, as they have relatively few calories.

Lentils are easy to cook, very low in fat, and they are also a good source of protein and fiber. You can use them in alot of different recipes, like soup.

It's physically intense so definitely not for anyone who is not used to pushing themselves with cardio or flexibility. Apart from that, I like it and my instructor a lot. I have learned quite a bit but, like anything, you can never learn everything so it will be a life long process for me! If there's anything specific you want to know, let me know!

Weight occurs when gravity is resisted.

If anyone wants to lose weight, try my three-day plan, guaranteed to lose 83% of your weight.

Go to the moon.
Thanks for the suggestion and laugh ;)

My goal is to be under 200 pounds. I may have to start exercising more- which I hate. Oh well.
Exercise is for health and performance, not for weight loss:

So if your priority is loosing weight, its not the way to go. The right way is to cut out any highly processed food (i.e. food that contains vegetable oils, sugars, preservatives and other junk):

Unfortunately you'll need to diet as well in some form (ie. control your food intake). Exercise is beneficial but you have to do a lot to take off the pounds.

There are about 590 calories in a Big Mac.

I don't know your weight, but this gives some idea of the calorie burning rate when running. If you weight 185 pounds (somewhere around your target), you'll burn about 336 calories running for 30 minutes at 5mph.

Which means you'd need to run for nearly an hour to burn off the Big Mac. That doesn't take into account your other food intake.

3. Body Weight

As a runner, you'll burn more calories per hour if you weigh 210 pounds than if you weigh 125. A 125-pound person who runs for 30 minutes at 5 mph (a 12-minute mile) will burn 240 calories, while a person who weighs 155 will burn 288 calories running at that same speed — and a 185-pound person will burn 336, according to Harvard Health Publishing.

There's another link here to calories burned while walking.

I need to lose a large amount of weight. What should I do to speed up my metabolism?

God bless
Start learning to cook and bake for yourself, stop taking processed food and drinks. Eat only what God created, not what big corporation created, even if it may cost you much more.
