repentant said:Ok I will. Christmas is an English word, not Latin. Christmas in Roman times (in Latin) was called Navidad, which means Nativity. Chrisouyenna in Greek, which means "Birth of Christ"
IgnatiusOfAntioch said:Speaking of history, have those of you who don't think the Catholic Church was the original Christian Church thought about where the word Christmas came from?
It is an abreviation of Christs' Mass! Try an prove me wrong.
May the Lord smile upon you in this Holy ChristMass season.
PraiseToHim said:Even us non Catholics know that there are only two possibilities for the original Church. The Catholic Church (ever see a list of the Bishops of Rome), and the Orthodox (ever see a list of the Bishops of Antioch).
JosephtheKansan said:The Church of Rome was indeed part of hte Original Catholic Church, but guess what--the form it is in now is totally foreign to the original Church. Go back 1,000 years and what you would see is something closer to what you would find in Greece or Russia today. Don't believe me? look at the works fo Giotto.
Oh and BTW the whole Christmas thing was a late medeival invention. As was Childermass (feast of the Holy Innocents) and Michaelmas (feast of Archangel Michael) and Whitmas (Pentecost). Such naming systems were utterly unknown to the early Church which called it "Nativity."

I think your OP is a bit of a stretch this time. Coining a word which others continue to use does not constitute evidence of being the original church.
Your sister in Christ,

JosephtheKansan said:yet it is still an English term.
JosephtheKansan said:wow all that and an Eastern Rite Catholic?
Now I know they are nothing like us.
