I just knew you'd be the first to reply, V! I am so blown away to discover this tonight. When I threw away all my rock n roll cds in the dumpster years ago, I began praying for the members whenever one of their songs would pop in my head after that. What a joy to discover that God said Yes to two of them. He even turns idols into His children!

Amen, brother.

May I ask who are some of your favorite Christian singers and Christian bands?

Amen, brother.

May I ask who are some of your favorite Christian singers and Christian bands?
Oh man, lessee... as you have probably guessed I'm mostly stuck in the 80's.

Petra (with John Schlitt formerly of Head East), Kerry Livgren and John Elefante (both formerly of Kansas - still praying for my fav vocalist Steve Walsh), Allies (probably the heaviest Christian rock I listen to), MW Smith, SC Chapman, Amy Grant's early stuff, Michael Card, Bob Bennett, Russ Taff (love his smoky voice - I'm an ex-singer so favor vocalists), Sheila Walsh, Mark Farner (formerly of Grand Funk), Jon Gibson (funky like Stevie Wonder), Benny Hester, Twila Paris, 2nd Chapter Of Acts, Steve Camp, David Meece, Bryan Duncan, Degarmo and Key, Margaret Becker, Leon Patillo, Rich Mullins, Keith Green (reading His biography now - what a gifted man of God), Kim Hill, The Imperials, Gaither Vocal Band, Don Francisco, and on and on.

More modern... love CeCe Wynans, Charity Gayle (I can't listen to "I Speak Jesus" enough lately!), Don Moen, Leeland, Hillsong Worship, Elevation Worship, Lenny LeBlanc, and ever-expanding. I put on a varied playlist most nights to go to sleep and learn who the artists are over time.

Aren't you glad you asked, ha? Like you, I'm a major music fan. I'm trying to catch up with yours a little at a time, but boy you crank em out! Do you get your favorite new artists from your collection or from YouTube like I do?

Most, if not all, of the artists from the 80s you've listed I have saved their cd's onto my desktop computer. My most two favorite artists from the 80s are DeGarmo & Key and also Petra. I'm also a big fan of Allies, David Meece, MWS, Steven Curtis Chapman, Steve Camp, Russ Taff and Bryan Duncan. In the 90s, I started listening to Jon Gibson, Geoff Moore, Audio Adrenaline, Guardian, Mylon Lefevre & Broken Heart, White Heart, and WhiteCross. From the modern list of artists you like, my favorite is Elevation Worship.

Ah, I thought I remembered we had spoken about Jon Gibson before, right? Wow... we seem to have very similar tastes. I should have added that I liked Petra with Greg X. Volz, too.

A quick story. In my rock n roll days I went to see Head East perform at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, Tx. I was impressed with the lead singer John Schlitt in part due to his stage presence - a real rapport with the crowd.

Years later I talked the members of my band into going to see Head East at another venue, bragging about how impressed they were gonna be with one of my idols Schlitt. Well out came the band, and the singer was some unknown guy - I had no idea Schlitt had been replaced. Major bummer as my band was not impressed! And as a worshipper of man at the time, I was bereaved for him that he was apparently no longer a superstar.

Well years later still, after being saved, me and a Christian buddy went to see Petra at a big arena in Austin. I had heard them a few times on the radio, but never seen them. And even so, our seats were not close enough that I could clearly make out any features of the band members.

Well, a few songs in I said to myself now wait a minute, that voice sounds familiar. The feeling grew until, if I still remember right, he started rapping with the audience. I elbowed my friend and said hey man I think that's John Schlitt! He had no clue as he was saved long before being immersed in the evils of RnR. I couldn't stand it so went out into the lobby to the concession stand where they were selling t-shirts and cds and sure enough - there he was! I was ecstatic.

Went back to my seat and was just amazed at how God plans events in our lives ahead of time. I thought back to that night at the Armadillo, strung out on drugs and booze, lusting to be a superstar myself - anything to give my life meaning and attract the approval I craved. Living vicariously through this singer in MY spotlight.

And now here we both were, after years and valleys of tears and dreadful pits of sin, celebrating together the One Who had saved us both from ourselves. I've since watched Schlitt's testimony on YouTube, and it's pretty awesome! Thus why I just rejoice over stories like the Van Zant's, too.

Enjoy bro!
Although I've been a fan of Petra for almost 40 years, that is the very first time I've heard John Schlitt's amazing testimony. Thank you so very much for sharing.
