  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Not only are they getting tougher on parents who spank their children, but also for sticking them in the corner. How do I know this? In 1996 I was arrested for discipling my then 5 year old daughter for telling me to shut up. I put her in the corner at my moms house, she didnt like it and turned me in to child abuse. Next thing you know the cops are there arresting me for endangering the welfare of a minor. My personal opinion? People should let parents discipline their kids without getting involved. Thats half the reason why things are the way they are with younger people having no respect, no fear of authority, no remorse. No, instead of disciplining children we just throw them on some ritilan and call it a day.

Oh nonono. That wouldn't fly here either. My two year old is getting to that point where she looks at mommy and daddy and shakes that little finger saying "NO NO Momma!!" She gets in trouble for that.

Well, as with all things, this can be taken too far.
Don't forget what those laws are in place to stop.

I think if there is a child who has completely taken over the reigns of power from a parent it is more the psychology of the parent trying to please the child as opposed to the threat of physical punishment. I was never struck and the threat did not even exist, yet I am a respectful, functional member of society.

Yes, I believe it can be taken too far. That is something most churches teach as well. Discipline out of love, not in your anger. If you are disciplining a child in your anger, you won't have that rational control over your actions most times.

Discipline is one thing. It's important to offer firm, consistent discipline or else the child will not have expectations or understand proper behavior. I have difficulty when I see parents who make threats and don't carry them out, or who let the child run wild because they think they are showing love. However, I oppose hitting a child. That teaches you that violence is a good way to cope with issues, and it teaches fear, not respect. The reason you see children sassing back a lot is because on all their television shows that's what's presented as cool. In the time when hitting the child was common, you might also notice that social norms did not allow someone to scream at their mother or hit her. It's different now. Hitting the kid won't change it.
The best children I've ever nannied for lived in a home with no television, where they were treated as adults, no onne babytalked to them and they were never considered a chore. The worst was a house where lawyer daddy nenver saw the kids but would smack them for misbehavior when he was around. They're crack smoking teens now...

I think I've spanked my daughter about 3 times in her whole life. It usually doesn't have to come to that. She get's a 'verbal warning' or two. Then she's sent to her room as a time out. After time out we discuss what happened and why we punished her. It works.
