Well since the Anglican Church is rather like the Catholic Church I'd say it is fine and can serve as penance.

Are you referring to children or yourself....as an adult? If you meant yourself as an adult, are your referring to spanking in sexual terms or some sort of spanking in punishment terms?

I think it is odd to paddle 17, or even 18 or 19 year olds, especially girls. I read that somewhere in Alabama a principal paddled senior high girls because their prom dresses looked too skimpy. Eh, there are more productive ways to express penetince. Use some of your Lenten Discipline tools, like fast for lunch and donate what you would spend on lunch to the poor and the time you would be eating to prayer.

As a form of penetince, spanking is just too likely to drift sexual, especially with adults/ adolescents. . . I don't dig it punitively for kids. . . I guess apart from sexual spanking, I just don't dig it (and that isn't high on my list).

The idea behind spanking a young child who is habitually misbehaving, is to give just a strong enough jolt that they are reminded they are not behaving right ; a swat on the rearend in the fleshy part of the buttocks is about as far as id go with the spanking thing., otherwise it can start to have an ill effect on the child by thinking the Parent doesnt love them anymore and that they are abusive which can long range emotional effects. Parents need to be in complete self control when administering discipline and always with the motive of teaching children out of love and concern.

Spanking is a poor choice for penance. Spanking in particular is sexual. BUT actually almost any form of pain is a dangerous path as endorphans released can easily change pain to pleasure.

I prefer your idea for real penance, or even hard, productive, physical labor.
