Spammed

Where does all the spam come from? My spam genie seems to be working overtime.
Have you ever thought what it would do to you if all the things spam advertised were true, or you applied all the things they tried to get you to sample?

  • Half my accounts would be overdue,
  • I could stop the aging process (with the anti-wrinkle serum),
  • Heal nail fungus in days,
  • Be debt free today and be instantly rich (which would probably get rid of my non-existent overdue accounts )
  • And be horribly immoral but probably good at it because of all the male enhancers I would be taking.

I think my brother may have had the right idea. Rather than listing himself as a 21-year old man, his account says he is a 75-year old woman.....

.... On the other hand, he now gets Viagra ads.

'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam' ..... (not fast enough)

... Wait a second - I'm a software engineer! Get the computer to do the work!

> set SCRIPT=despamtheworld.sh
> echo "#!/bin/csh" > $SCRIPT
> echo "while 1" >> $SCRIPT
> echo 'echo '"'"'I dont believe in spam\n'"'" >> $SCRIPT
> echo "end" >> $SCRIPT
> chmod +x $SCRIPT
> while 1
> despamtheworld.sh &
> end

'i dont believe in spam'
'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam'
'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam'
'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam'
'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam' 'i dont believe in spam'

...And then after less than 2 seconds, having spawned tens of thousads of threads, my computer starts to smoke, having used up all its cpu - CRASH! If I weren't totally against viruses, it would be great if someone would come up with anti-spam virus....

lol. I have to laugh every time I get one that tells me I can get all the chicks I want if a certain part of my body (which I might add I don't even have) where, um, shall we say, enhanced! And I seem to get a ton of Viagra ads. I am not sure what about my account profile gets me selected for these.....

If the "I hate spam" program works, you just made a customer outta me!

I think it has to do with where their vital component of life is defined, from both sides of the fence. There are of course necessary painful concerns with respect to overdose (no experience on this end, but the thought of those who are unbalanced falling into their own misdirection brings a smile).

i don't get spam.

but i don't surf and give out my email much, especially without clicking the "no i don't want you to send me some 'mail' from your so called affliates" box

i guess i learned a lesson when i logged back into one of my (old) accounts years ago and saw it filled with over 100 emails, all of them unsolicited.

LOL, I have two different e-mail boxes and two different spam stories. :)

For both, I don't visit pr0n or gambling sites at all. Those are the biggest spammers, and staying away from them is not only beneficial to your walk with God, it's very beneficial to stopping spam. I also don't send those inane forwards-those are spam in and of themselves, and spambots and spammers harvest the address lists. :)

On my Compuserve address (my main box) I'm very vigilant about spam. I never post my address unaltered and never give it to sites without anti-spam privacy policies. I don't give my address or IM name to people who I have reason to believe would spam me. Hence, I get very little spam there-about one or two spams a week, usually for mortgage lenders or investment opportunities, once a long time ago for pr0n.

My Yahoo address is another issue. I used it to set up my pogo.com and uproar.com accounts, and I made the biggest spam mistake anyone could make with it (albeit on purpose):

I was attempting to disprove the credentials of someone who was "ordained" through the Universal Life Church (a scam ordination mill) over at another board. I did get the ULC to ordain me online as something not very good, hence proving my point that they would ordain anything that applied, no matter how unworthy of ordination the applicant. However, the yahoo address, which I had used in my fake application, then started getting spam. On one occasion, it got seventy spams in a day. :)

Point being: Don't give your address to ordination mills. ;)

I haven't visited any porn or gambling sites or really any other sites that would send me the type of mail that seems to come into my hotmail account. And I certainly haven't given it out to sites that would send me such mail. But I seem to get some of the worst mail to that address. Now with my yahoo account, I have no trouble with spam. I get no spam on that one. But hotmail seems to just attract nasty mail! ;)

here's a tool I use to see whether or not a site sells or gives away my information to spammers: http://www.mailinator.com/mailinator/Welcome.do

It's an awesome website. Simply make up any email address @mailinator.com and put it into whatever field or website needs an address. Type that address into mailinator's main page to check what they're sending out - the site gets email to any address@mailinator.com. I use it anytime I need to verify that I have an email address but have no interrest in hearing from the people regularly, if ever again. Bear in mind that whatever you get back to a mailinator domain will be public - anyone can access it, so it's not good for personal use. Sure does filter a lot of spam for me, though. Once I've seen someone is credible, and not sending out junk, I'll update my record with them to one of my real addresses :)

Right there's your problem. Hotmail=spam.

This is a good point. If you're careful with your e-mail, and if you don't have an easily guessable @anypopulardomain.com, then you should be just fine. I have a Yahoo account I use occasionally that gets 0 spam. :)

Yahoo also has a pretty good spam filter too. I get tons of spam at that account b/c that's my email address that I use when I'm signing up for stuff online, etc. BUT about 98% of the spam is sent directly to the 'trash' folder and is automatically deleted after a couple of days.
