It's articles like these that can either make you laugh with the absurdity of it, or cry that there may be quite a few people who agree with this opinion.

How many theories about homosexuality can be trotted

Well there are hormonal properties to soy and women use it to treat certain menopausal symptoms...but turning someone gay? Sheesh! WND is always good for a chuckle, although it pains me to think of how many ingnorant people there are in the world.

They did a study in the 70s where they injected homosexual men with testosterone to see if that effected their sexual attraction. It did - by making it much stronger.

Also, men and women have both hormones in their body. COME QUICKLY LORD JESUS! Yes, it's true, men just have more testosterone, and women, more estrogen, so even if Soy does have estrogen, it wouldn't effeminize a man, because he has estrogen in his system already.

And unless he injects strong levels estrogen into his veins, he won't be growing breasts or trying out for project runway.

I would laugh, only there are people that believe that worldnetnews is a reliable source, and because it is faith based, assume that they wouldn't tell a lie.

No, I don't usually find someone being in error laughable with absurdity. People get wrong notions all the time. Some people have mental challenges too, I don't point at them and laugh either. But more to the point, what can be disheartening to observe are people that mock others because of arrogance or just mean spiritedness.

The piece is an editorial, did you catch that part?
What about the rest of the editorial?
No, I don't agree with the article in parts, but this thread isn't for talking about all the parts and what is agreed on/disagreed... or is that an incorrect assumption by me?

Yes I caught it was an editorial and how the guy flipped out because there are estrogens in soy. PLANT estrogens that have no impact on the endocrine system. I guess he is such a manly man, that the thought if anything with "estrogen" in it will give him a stroke.

Really? No impact at all?

And here I was under the impression that plant estrogen, endocrine disrupting/mimicking chemicals, , etc. were a debatable topic at best that was still being studied.

The fact that there is an OP-ED article in existence asserting a connection between a controversial topic and a debatable ongoing study isn't surprising (to me). I see them often on all sorts of topics.

Perhaps your claims of "no impact" needs some substantiation.

Healthy human beings have both estrogen and testosterone in their systems. While plant-based estrogen MIGHT, I say MIGHT, make some difference there would simply not be enough to feminise a system loaded with testosterone.

Soybeans do contain compounds called isoflavones that resemble and weakly mimic estrogens. I've read a few papers that discuss their possible effects on human physiology, and they usually fall into the category of "Hmmm...suggestive, no evidence either way yet, needs more study." Our wingnut author seems to have a different source than the scientific literature, though, because he makes some rather definitive claims.

So, I searched PubMed, and there's nothing on soy and menarche or menstruation; I found a few articles on soy and puberty, and they say things like "The literature offers no evidence of endocrine effects in humans from infant consumption of modern soy-based formulas" and "To date, no adverse effects of short- or long-term use of soy proteins have been observed in humans and exposure to soy-based infant formulas does not appear to lead to different reproductive outcomes than exposure to cow milk formulas" and "Available evidence from adult human and infant populations indicates that dietary isoflavones in soy infant formulas do not adversely affect human growth, development, or reproduction." There are many more papers on its putative effects on breast cancer and the symptoms of menopause, and even there it's a study in ambiguity: some reports of slight positive effects, many more stating that there isn't a detectable effect.

Umm yeah what about Asia where they have been consuming soy products for centuries upon centuries? There's no indication that they have any higher incidences of people being gay.

And since there has been a rise in soy consumption in the United States in recent years it stands to reason that there would be more and more gay men. Not consistent with reality though. The percentage remains the same, indicating a genetic basis.

Sawwy, soy is not the answer.

Oh, don't get me wrong.
I didn't say that I agreed with the article. In fact, I believe I hinted that I do not. And I wouldn't be one to dismiss human behavior based on what someone might eat... well, short of mind altering stuff and perhaps my mood when I DIDN'T eat.

But I did feel it prudent to hold the various claims accountable.
Besides, I find a need to pass every claim nowadays through a filter. Too many people trying to make a name for their self by being the first to assert the latests notion.
