Does anybody know of a moderately cheap (<$200) sound card that is made for recording sound? I would like at least 5 inputs, but they don't need to be stereo (maybe 2 or 3 stereo inputs). What would you suggest?

In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I found out some more about multitrack recording programs - most of them allow you to record from multiple sound cards. I can buy a Sound Blaster 16 PCI for $15 at www.tigerdirect.com (great store - i've bought stuff from them before). I don't think that that's ASIO low-latency compatable though. Apparently, I don't need ASIO support unless I'm doing live mixing and effects with my computer. I don't need to do that, but it would be nice... do you know of any cheap ASIO sound cards?
I can also use USB sound cards, because my computer (got it from tigerdirect) has 4 USB ports and support for 2 more.

Get a Creative Audigy 5.1 SB0090 Special Edition with Firewire port S001099 best value for money and you can add a AMP or mixer to it at a later stage with the firewire port.
