• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Ricardo, you are like a walking encyclopedia and you just ASTOUND me!

Thanks for the heads up on the Swedish process - I will definitely look into that further. There's no reason it can't be done in other places.

I just want to let you all know something that I heard Pope Benedict say today in Sydney at World Youth Day.

I didn't get it verbatim but it went something like this:

Can we imagine ourselves standing face to face with victims of violence and sexual exploitation and explaining to them that their suffering was merely for our entertainment?

Code, the measure – if passed by voters – would ban the San Francisco Police Department from allocating any financial resources for the investigation and prosecution of sex workers on prostitution charges.

Proponents of the measure are claiming it is needed to give sex-industry workers equal protection under the law and to counter an alleged long-standing cronyism between dance club owners and key decision makers that has resulted in police cracking down on some prostitution outlets but looking the other way from popular nightclubs, even when the clubs were accused of sexual abuses by workers.

"Workers would like it if crimes like rape, robbery, theft and coercion were vigorously investigated and prosecuted. We want the right to make reports of crimes against us without being retaliated against by the police department."

To be honest I do have mixed feelings. I'm do favor to stop prosecuting women for prostitution as happens in nearly every country in the world except the US and Muslim countries. Women that resort to that are not in the best situation anyways and prosecuting them makes harder to leave the game, add criminal records to her employem resumè (and often as a sex criminal no less), makes very difficult to complain to the police being threatened, beaten or raped by johns or pimps. And if often unfair, low end prostitutes get haressed more that hight end ones and cops oftem extort prostitutes for free sex. I thing the agressiveness of American pimps is due to the unwitting protection of the Law, that makes very difficul for women who are commiting a crimminal act themselves to denouce their abuses.
In the other hand I would love to see if SF would keep craking down on pimps and johns. If they do so I would favor a law like that.

While part of the proposal about keeping the police to prosecuting prostitutes is OK.

His part is not:
The ballot measure also takes aim at two programs currently used by San Francisco authorities to combat sex industry crime.
The first is the use of federal and state funds to reduce human trafficking, particularly of illegal immigrants, into the sex trade. The ballot measure states, "San Francisco's law enforcement agencies shall not apply, nor receive federal and state monies that institute racial profiling as a means of targeting alleged trafficked victims under the guise of enforcing the abatement of prostitution laws."
District Attorney Harris dodged the measure's thinly veiled implication of racism in explaining why the funds and program are valuable. The ballot measure's changes "would make it very challenging to investigate and prosecute human trafficking," she told the Chronicle. "We need to use police resources to investigate where there is a suspicion that women and children, in particular immigrants, are being exploited."

We all know in this board how serious the sexual explotation of ilegal inmigrats is. That will make it even more serious.
Is one of that cooky liberal things. The get a good idea and a horrible one and join them together.

Paula,

I hope you don't mind me posting this here, but I just want to thank you again for the book that you sent me. I am reading it and learning so much. I am honestly starting to wonder if possibly I have more in common with the Catholic belief system than I imagined. Or at least the belief system of Peter Kreeft! I have to admit reading books like this make me want to SCREAM, "Why can't I find a church that is as honest as this????!!!" I feel the same way when I read C.S. Lewis! Why do most churches seem so numb to the suffering of the world...the suffering of most people...and why do they make those that speak of it openly feel like they are lacking in faith???????????!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway....that is just my little tantrum for the morning....

I love you my dear sis and I do pray that someday we will meet here on this earth........... Sometimes it blows my mind that God has brought people from all over the world together here on this forum!

Courtney, I can't tell you how happy it makes me to hear that I've done something that is helping you! It was such a small thing but yeah, isn't it an amazing little book? It just blew me away. As soon as I finished it, I ordered 4 more copies on line. I just sent one to my mother in law who has suffered tremendously in her life. I hope it helps her too.
Hey, if you want to discuss it at all, do so; this IS our chat center!

Just an FYI, Peter Kreeft wasn't yet a Catholic when he wrote that book, but you'd never know it eh? I guess I figured any book on suffering has GOT to be Catholic! lol

Re: churches that seem to be numb to the world's suffering: It seems like "what's the point?" if people can't be honest in church of all places and get the support they need! I pray that you will find a HOME in church one day Courtney. A place where you can lay your soul bare and be appreciated for it. Where your suffering would never be dismissed as a lack of faith.

You know, today I was talking to this lady in church that I hadn't really spoken to before and was talking about raising Meaghan and how hard it is and I just started to cry before I could stop myself. This lady hugged me and REALLY spoke to me and told me to call her to talk. I was so grateful for this small gesture - this response to my suffering. It is these small things that make life worth living- the connections with people. The true love- you know, love is a verb.

Court, I know how much you love C.S. Lewis- I think you'd LOVE G.K. Chesterton.
If I'm not mistaken, the two were good friends.

I love Lewis too but I think that Chesterton's got a little more levity to him. He was a striking physical figure too - over 6 feet tall and 300 pounds!

My archdiocese's newspaper, the B.C. Catholic is doing a 2 part series on the push for legalizing prostitution before the Vancouver Olympics.

So many misguided people thinking that they're going to HELP the women out there when all it will do is legalize and institutionalize slavery.
I think I may write to the paper in response and try to help to galvanize the ladies in my parish. They are already trying to be active in this regard.

Thank you guys for the links. I will check them out when I am feeling a bit better. Today was another long day of testing for me at the hospital (outpatient stuff but it was still very draining). Many hugs and blessings! Court

Shelley Lubben has recently posted some videos of Chasey Lain, a well established porn star, on her myspace page. The video clips feature Chasey clearly on drugs and not wanting to perform her scenes. The cameramen are being very abusive to her verbally. I was going to post the link to the clips but they are probably not appropriate for this forum. Suffice to say Chasey is very possibly in danger of needing to be hospitalized. I was very affected watching it as she is clearly in big trouble, so I am asking everyone to pray for her. She is 39 and it is time for her to get out of this business. It made me sad all day thinking about her, and angry that the porn industry is allowed to exist even though it is illegal!

Those videos are all over the web now. If one seens photos of Chasey Lain in her mid nineties heyday when she was a Contract Girl A girl for one of the biggest porn companies and see it now, it is just scary. Some women just cannot beat their addiction to the life. She seems to be seriously mentally ill, being high in either chrystal Meth or cocaine and I think I saw tracks in her arms too so she must be doing heroin too. Yet she stills get work in D grade porn, that is the scariest thing. She should be in a mental hospital not in porn.
To be sincere. The porn industry is legal in California, the Cali supreme court in one of the harebrained and usual decision said that hiring people to have sex in porn movies is not prostitution, becasue porn "is a performance". Yes sure, porn is prostitution as a performace.
The sad thing is that despite porn being technically ilegal in a red state like Florida, Tampa and Miami have become the minors leages of porn because the DAs are too scared of prosecute the pornographers and talent agencies on prostitution ground for the fear of the State Supreme Court coming with a California like ruling. The same thing seems to be going on in NY, NJ and OR. So they have defacto legalized shooting porn in those states despite being ilegal on prostitution grounds-
The solution is to clearly reform prostitution laws in the Swedish model, defining prostituites, including porno actors of both sexes as victims, not as criminals as is done in the US and the pimps and johns, who must include porn producers and directors, and talent managers as criminals.
And make a clear differnese between the broadcasting of sexually explicit material, who may be protected by free speech rights in some cases from the hiring of people to perform sexual acts for money that is prostitution.

I did read on Luke Ford that Chasey is using heroin to come down from the speed, which is not unheard of. Well hopefully the videos will inspire more to pray for her.

Leave it to Cali to create a loophole. Can't lose those billions in revenue. I agree, compassion for the prostitutes and porn actors and justice for the exploiters.

She might not be the only one doing that. I read the same thing on Crystal/SophiaL in LF.

Cali has a loohole that othes states are condeeding. Like Florida.

And the legal porn "modelling agencies" they are a bunch of pimps with ties to organized crime that are also into escorting and even organize rapes for the girls to "break them". I bet you had already a run down with them.

Yes, I think that may have been what was planned for me. Recently, "someone" tried to send a virus to us via email. They're hopping mad at the exposure they're getting, I guess.

I read on Luke Ford that Chasey Lain is referred to by some as "The Girl with the Empty Eyes." That is exactly what I saw in a co-worker of mine who had gotten into porn. She was so visibly unhappy. Interestingly, someone on Stripperweb made a nasty, snyde comment about my observation that my co-worker's eyes looked so sad. Like how stupid to actually express compassion for the suffering of a porn actress. What a cold-hearted world.
