Evolution seems to be one of those subjects which initially appears to contradict The Bible and Church traditional teaching...e.g. The Earth apparantly at the centre of the universe, with the sun rotating around it. The fact that The Bible doesn't really talk about evolution doesn't help.

Do you take the creation story in Genesis literally, or do you believe that "a day" as written in Genesis, could relate to thousands of our years, which would have given us enough time to evolve from simple organisms? Somebody told me that the Hebrew word for "day" just means "Period of time".

Its clear that Genesis is not about God's *methods*, otherwise it would have included a complete description of the laws of physics, etc. The truth in Genesis comes from the *theological meaning* embedded in it. If God has given us a disseration on general relativity and evolution, then that theology would have been lost on everyone. Not to mention the fact that the average person, even today, wouldn't be able to grasp a word of it.

OECs often point to scriptures that say that God's notion of time is not like ours (in the day, etc)...but then they weave a complicated historical account around the scriptures...which once again, is missing the point.

In fact, if you examine the context under which the writers wrote those scriptures, there are some historians that argue that even the writers recognized the text as metaphorical (although there is certainly some dispute about this). Whatever the writers may have thought, its clear that God chose language and images that they could be familiar with and connect with...and Jesus does the same in His parables. God wants to keep things simple, and thats why Genesis is brilliantly composed.

And this is what Jesus says when He says to accept our faith 'like a child'. Its interesting that the more we know...the harder that becomes. (Interesting ties to Genesis when you think about it).

I accept evolution and am still a Christian as are many. Is the serpent my father too?

Can you provide us with some background on your research that has led you to your conclusions? Have you read any books on evolution? Have you even read Darwin?

Can you give us a hint at what references on the scientific theory of evolution you used to come to your conclusion? What led you to accept evolution in the first place and what led you to believe that it is only supported by fraud and conspiracy? It would appear that you have knowledge that falsifies the theory that is not available to 99% of mainstream scientists. Can you share it with us? Have you read Darwin?

Kent Hovind is not a scientist. He effectively purchased his doctorate rather than earning one from an accredited institutiton. He has no science degrees. All of his claims are easily disproved and people here have done so time and time again.

He's basically a con artist using Christianity to exploit the ignorance of people like yourself in order to tell you what you want to hear rather than discuss science.
