remember these things:
the marriage is way more important than the wedding.
Put God first. Really.
Pray together. Make it a habit you can't do without.
Don't assume he (the hubby) can read your mind. He can't. Tell him what you're thinking. If you have trouble talking about it, talk in the dark, or write letters to him.
Laugh together.

Hopefully your church has seminars and addresses roles of spouses often. If not, you might want to look into what other churches are doing. I am so blessed with the church I've been attending for the last 2 years. I knew I needed more accountability in my life and I got it. The single's pastor made it a real challenge before he gave my now-husband and I permission to get married even after attending a 6 week marriage prep/enrichment class. And that's ok. We made it through a lot of challenges and are equipped to handle the ones that continue.

I agree that strengthening your own relationship with God is of utmost importance. Also figuring out each other's love languages so you're blessing your spouse in ways they really feel loved is great.

Not to get off-topic, but are my WH & I really the ONLY ones who couldn't STAND that book "The Five Love Languages"? We read it for a marriage class at church, and if I had to read "love tank" one more time... (we read it together, me reading it out loud to him...every time I got to those words, I'd look over to him and we'd both go "LOOOOOOVE tank!")

You're not the only ones! I read the book, summed it up for hubby and now he's not interested in reading it at all. I think the whole "love tank" thing is a riot. "Oh, honey, I'm sputtering around, running on fumes because my love tank is feeling empty!"
