For me, it really depends on the song. Some songs are just annoying, anyway, and associating them with toothpaste or cars isn't such a big deal. But, yeah, I agree with Bargainfluger. They should lay off the LZ. Also, Aerosmith.

I generally don't find myself associating the song with the commercial, since I usually listen to those songs a lot more and don't have the time to think about an ad while doing so.

Now, certain songs may remind me of full-length music videos that were made for them, and that's harder for me to disassociate the song with, but I've done it before.

I actually find a lot of good music through ad campaigns.

And I thought the "Born In The USA" thing was with Reagan...

If I see a commercial playing a song I like, the content of the ad goes out the window, and when it finishes I don't even know what the ad was about - just enjoyed hearing the song...they recently had a commercial with a Hendrix song in it, I dunno what it was about, just that it had a motorcycle in it...or was it a car? See what I mean? So, no, for me it doesn't affect the song at all..

Yes. Some car company ruined Zepplin's "Rock and Roll" for me. I have a mental image of some huge truck rumbling over rocky terrain whenever I hear that song.

Wasn't Bob Seger singing about Ford trucks, anyway? (j/k) Ford ruined "Like a Rock" for me. Also, "Dream On" was wrecked by some car company.

I have seen their song 'Alright' used twice in a commercial for Visa and for our phone company Telus.

It's an appropriate song and the ads didnt cheapen it for me.

First Visa ad was for some middle-age men, all best friends evidently, backpacking through Europe and having the time of their lives.

Second,Telus... not sure of the relevance but the ad is of penguins who are scuttling around a white room while the song plays - what it has to do with telephones I haven't made the connection just yet.

we are young * we run green * keep our teeth * nice and clean * see our friends * see the sights * feel alright *

Good point. I would have never found the band Trio if it weren't for Volkswagen using "Da Da Da" lol

Same here. I don't really associate songs that much with products, and when I do it rarely ruins the song for me.

Speaking of Hendrix, I do now have a Hendrix song associated with Hulk Hogan because he used it as entrance music later in his wrestling career. But I still like the song even though I sometimes have images of Hogan strumming his air guitar while walking towards the ring lol
