Sometimes I feel like a bad parent!

I just realized I forgot to pick up my son's refill of prednisone. He takes it twice weekly on Fri. and Sat. nights. I knew he was out last night and meant to pick it up from pharmacy. Well that pharmacy closed at 1pm. In order for another pharmacy to fill it they would have to call and transfer it from the other pharm. so that doesn't do much good. The weekend higher dose plan is something they have tested in Duchenne muscular dystrophy and found to be just as effective as daily or every other day doses with fewer side effects. I don't like to give it one weekdays because prednisone can cause behavior problems but I guess this time I will have to give it Monday. But these kinds of mistakes just make me feel awful! His medication is so important!

As parents we have one major handicap, being human. We honestly try our best to be perfect parents 24/7, but we don't always manage it. And I am talking about all of us here. This is not something you should even consider beating yourself up about. From the tone of what you have written, I kinda suspect he is one lucky boy to have you for a mom.

Thanks Andy. I appreciate it. I will just give it to him Monday. On the bright side, at least it's not a daily dose he is missing.

There are times when you feel like a bad parent? Welcome to the club! Show me any parent who says that they never felt that way and I'll show you an arrogant fool or a liar.

Just try and remember how hard it was for you to do what you wanted to do and intended to do and you knew was very important, but still forgot. Becasue someday your son is going to do the exact same thing... How do you want to be treated?

I'm a nurse and still would forget to give my son his medicine.
Or the time I got the ending of preschool wrong, and there the other little guy sat on a curb waiting for his mother. Or the time, well you get the picture.
Despite my shortcomings, a couple of months ago my son told me that there was never a time in his life that he felt like he wasn't the most important thing to me.
We try our best, and then try harder.

I am a nurse too and I guess that makes it harder also. Believe me this is not the first time I have felt bad as a parent. But all we can do when we fail is get back up and try again.

I totally understand. My son takes medicine to control seizures 2 times a day and I have forgotten before. What's worse for me is when I can't remember if I have or not.
