• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was searching in the online bible about 'have nothing to do with' because I feel like sometimes people avoid or shun me, :cry:and I wanted to know if they are doing it because they are following certain verse, or if I am really that repulsive or sinful. Then I came upon the follow verses, which I can definitely relate to.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Psalm 38:9-11 (NIV)
9 All my longings lie open before you, Lord;
my sighing is not hidden from you.
10 My heart pounds, my strength fails me;
even the light has gone from my eyes.
11 My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds;
my neighbors stay far away.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I am currently going thru a medication withdrawal (it makes me sleepy in the day time so I am quitting it) and my heart pounds in the morning, my brain feels tired all the time and I was unable to do simple tasks easily like walking my dog (I will do it tomorrow), I noticed puffiness around my eyes everyday recently, and my eyes sometimes feels dim.:| I noticed people at church sometimes avoid me because of my condition.

So after reading the verses, I know that I am not the only one going thru those hurtful things, even David did, and I can cry out to God like he did in the Psalms, especially in Psalm 38.:bow:

I don't believe people are shunning you or avoiding you at Church. Have you tried walking over to them and simply say "good morning" or something like that? I'm shy and I used to think people were avoiding me or thought negatively about me but that wasn't the case. I slowly developed confidence to initiate contact/conversation with people and people seem to warm to me pretty quickly. My advice to you would be to engage with others at Church on Sunday. Start with just one person who's by themselves and probably thinking the same thing you are.

I can identify with David a lot of the time. But the one thing so awesome. So powerful, is that God was always there for him, just like He is there for us.

What Paul said may be correct. It messes with our minds and distorts our perceptions. So remember, things might not always be what they seem. I've said a prayer for you.

I agree with the others... I have noticed that people's reactions to me have changed rapidly, depending on how confident I appear. It is immediate, at times. I know that it's very hard when you are being affected by medication, but if you can manage a smile and a word, sometimes it will really help. You might be correct about them, or maybe you are projecting something that isn't true--either way, the great thing is that it can change. My prayers are with you.
