Well first of all i should mention that i always believed god is real i just never stayed close to god or started a christian life. Anyways i was thinking about becoming christian but theres something stoping me. Sometimes it seems like a christian life is boring because if your christian then you have to stay away from certain music you can only watch clean entertainment(which is beyond boring) is there really any adventure in a christian life? it seems like god only wants are lives to consist of two things going to church and chewing on his word all day everyday. I don't know if i can live up to his high expectations. And on top of all this theres something in the back of my mind telling me hes going to curse me for thinking this. Is there any christians here that sometimes feel like the christain life is boring?

Of course there is something stopping you; it's Satan. Why would he want to lose you to God.
All of what you are thinking is lies. Christian life is exciting, if you get involved in living as a Christian needs to.
Besides, life as we know it is very short, but eternity is forever. Your decision about becoming a Christian will decide where you spend eternity.

Hmmm, sounds like you think that being a Christian automatically means that you must be a saint.

That is far from the truth.

I grew up listening to Rock n Roll, I still listen to it. I still swear and cheat and lie etc. It is not that I am not suppose to do these things, I realize that they are wrong and I repent. But its hard to stop sinning ... actually ... it is impossible to stop sinning.

The Bible explains that our very nature is sinful, we are enslaved to sin. Don't let Christians tell you that you must live a dull perfect life in order to be a Christian, it is impossible.

Being a Christian means that you realize that you are a sinner who cannot stop sinning. It means that you look to Jesus Christ as the savior of your soul for he took your place and suffered for your sins so that you may inherit eternal life.

This doesn't mean that we don't try not to sin, it just means that we should not fixate ourselves on our sins. My sinfulness is not the thing that expresses my faith. It is because I am a sinner that I have faith and I pray to God daily to help me with my sins.

The only thing stopping you from entering heaven is your rejection of Jesus Christ.

Because we are sinners, we deserve hell.

What Jesus did was to take our place. He took on all our sins and was punished for them. We in return take on his holiness so that we will be rewarded for the sinless life of Christ.

Basically put, Jesus stepped in front of the train that was meant to kill us so that we may live.

If you reject that, you reject salvation.

Hey There!
Being a Christian is not boring. I by no means am perfect. I watch shows that are not rated 'G', I go out and drink sometimes, and lots of the time I act like an idiot. If I was walking down the mall with my friends, you probably would not pick us out from any other group of people. We still have fun. We are still normal.

So lets say i decide not to become christian does this mean im going to hell?

There are two places we can go to when we leave this Earth.

One is Heaven.
The other is Hell.

Jim and Joe are both great guys.
Both do good things with charitable organizations.
Both are good fathers.

Jim is going to Heaven.
Joe is going to Hell.

Why Jim...?
Jim has had his sins forgiven.
Jesus did this for him, when Jesus died on the cross about 2000+ years ago.
Jim believes this.
Jim acknowledges that he has sinned against a Holy God.
Jim acknowledges that Jesus is God's Son.
Jim acknowledges that Jesus died on the cross as punishment for Jim's sin.
Jim has repented of his sin.
Jim has turned from his sin.
Jim is saved.
Jim is saved from the eternal punishment for his sin.

Hi, Welcome to the Forums. When I first became a Christian I was acutely aware that Jesus was with me all the time. In a movie, I would feel embarrassed as certain scenes would come on, and felt ashamed to be watching it.

However, not all things are wrong. What might be wrong for me might not be wrong for you. Just because I struggled in that movie, doesn't mean it would trouble your conscience. It all depends on the conviction of the Holy Spirit who indwells all believers.

We grow in Christ over time.

Many of us listen to hard rock music; I don't but many do. I like alternative music, but prefer messianic over that.

It's not about high expectations. Those you get from other believers who feel you ought to live as they do. God deals with us sin by sin, and slowly helps us grow in him and turn things over to him.

Some can drink alcohol and have no problem with it; they don't abuse it, but others need abstain because they have trouble with it.

You will know as you come to Christ, where your struggles lie, and you will want to change certain things in your life because the Holy Spirit will convict you and God will help you as you turn from sin.

As you read the bible you will find certain things are sins, and you can determine to turn from that sin or struggle with it, with God as he helps you to be free from that sin.

It's the heart that God is changing in us. We have a willingness and desire to do what we believe God would have us do.

Please don't get stuck where you hear from other people what you 'ought' to do and 'ought' not to do. Though other believers and non-Christians can definitely point out our sin, do not be dismayed. Many love to point out the sin of others while they themselves are sinning.

We all fall short of the glory of God. All wrong doing is sin. We will struggle with sin all our lives friend.

We are more free in Christ, than we were without Christ.

God does the work, and He will reveal things to you friend. It is a good choice to become a Christian, Jesus brings life and light into your life.

Struggles yes, but a new heart, a new person, a new creation, and new ways to cope because of promises in scripture, and the fact that Jesus died to pay all our sin, yesterday, today, and tomorrows, and he was resurrected and now sits' at the Fathers right hand.

I write what I'm writing because I imagine your perceptions of Christianity is what you've heard and experienced from others. These may be false assumptions.

You can know for yourself, and your walk with God is personal.

Well, thanks for the question. Bless you friend, Tapero

i am supposed to be a christian all my life and it's not always easy.

there are times that i fall in sin and feel bad, but there are also times when i fall and i thank God for allowing me to fall. i thank Him because He gave me the option, the freedom to do so.

sin is a bad thing but it is also an experience. sin can make us go closer to God or depart from Him. it is up to us. it is not a matter of erasing all sinfull or bad things in our lives. we will do bad things till the day we die...
it is about our desire to get closer to our Creator.

I don't feel the christian life is boring, when I feel that way, I take it a sign from God that there is something I am missing in doing, He gives much pleasurable work if we ask Him.

christianity is not just going to church. You will have an adventure when you start reading the bible, and then sharing the truth to even churchgoers. many are not christians, they are just fakers. It is very lively sometimes when you tell the sunday school teacher something truthful that makes them cuss you out (obviously they don't know what the bible says when they react like that). well, that was very interesting to me anyway.

I think it gets boring if you (or any churchgoer) just tries to make everyone happy and say flattering things all day long. Christians do not do that, Jesus says we are blessed when persecuted, and His real people will be treated like Him, rejected and hated because with the Holy Spirit, we convict of sin (yes, trying to be as gentle as possible, still have to get out a whip sometimes as Jesus did to the temple.).

There are also ministries God can help you with. I reach out to criminals with bible studies. surely there is good work God will share with you to do in good time.

sitting in a pew at church all the time is not what christianity is about. reaching out to the lost can be very fun (ask God to give you fun, He will). The closer you get to God, the less you will like sinful things, you cannot love anything that caused Jesus to be put to death for, the more you know Him and love Him.

there is a guy in here, called willo, he is an open-air preacher, his stories are very funny, I know he does not have a boring life. here's his blog http://www.christianforums.com/t2287570-willos-journal-of-a-journey-full-time-evangelism.html

even if it is boring at times, just find something good to do, don't just let yourself be bored. when I am bored with my son, taking him to the parks, I at least have a walkmen on listening to bible, listening to Genesis isn't boring to me, its like a soap opera. but you do have to have Jesus' Holy Spirit to really appreciate what the bible is talking about. We can get His Spirit just by asking sincerely and seeking Truth.

also reading about christian history, and learning about christian persecution helps me put into perspective. God wants His people hot for Him, not just bumps on a log. If you are hot, people will come to watch you burn. another ministry sharing persecutions going on, that helps show a part of real christianity, is www.persecution.com, I highly recommend this newsletter (free if you live in US) if you would like to see what Jesus means by take up your cross daily and follow Him, it is not easy reading, but will help you see being hot for God, and what others are doing that they risk their lives for Jesus and are happy to do it. I believe with God's help, He will give courage, and also creativeness to really LIVE life, not just listen to others about their lives.

God doesn't expect you to live up to his "high expectations". Christ wants a personal relationship with you. Have you asked for His Holy Spirit to come into your heart? Its a real lifestyle and committment. Without the Holy Spirit, you will in now way have the power of God to live a christian life. Its a lifelong process of becoming christ like. You will really become born again spiritually. This isn't just a bunch of words.

Please feel free to email me if have any more questions.

The devil is fighting you and doesn't want you to have a fulfilled life in christ.

Going to church is the best time for my week. When one has the Holy Spirit your desire is to want to worship God. Its a natural desire. Also, you will want to fellowship with christians like this.

Well, let's see.

I've travelled all over North America playing music with some of the best musicians around and still play on the weekends in various clubs around town.

I sail competetively out of Annapolis, Md, where the competition is as high as any NFL game.

I crew on two tall ships in our area.

I compete professionally in various fishing tournaments up and down the East Coast.

I'm married with two great kids.

I've created and run two successful businesses.

Doesn't sound boring to me.

I'd like to say huh? But depending on your answer I couldn't debate. So anyway, what were you saying there friend?

I'm saying that the idea that God doesn't expect us to adhere to His perfect standard, His "high expectations" is Unbiblical and has sent countless millions to Hell.

It is precisely because we don't live up to the standard God has set for us, that is sin. That is rebellion against God.

When we break God's laws, we become enemies of His and when we stand in judgement before God, we go to Hell.

Now, if she had said, "God expects us to live up to His high standard but knows that we can't, so He gave His only Son as a ransom to redeem us from the curse of the law", then she might have a point. But she didn't.

Christian life is absolutely not boring. I listen to music, watch movies/TV, and I even read all the Harry Potter books;) . Although, I do object to certain music or movies but it doesn't make for a boring existence. God gave us to live our lives abundantly. There is so much more to life than just those things. As a christian, God renews our hearts and minds, so the things that we hold onto being so important in our lives may not be so in the future. Christians don't sit around in church all day with their faces buried in a bible. Some may, but they choose to do so. Besides, I have two boys and nothing is boring around here.

What you think is boring to you may not be boring to someone else. :)

I agree. I had the same feelings as you Jmichael before becoming a Christian. I love the change that Christ has done in me. Its very exciting. Through the Holy Spirit coming to dwell in us our priorities change. We become more God centered and less self centered.
