When my water broke merconium was discovered within it....meaning she had a bowel movement inside the womb. Her heart rate started fluctuating about 6 hours into my labor and it was decided that we would try vacuum extraction, first and if that didnt work the first time, we would go C-section.
She was born the first try, but she wasnt breathing. She resisted artificial respiration attempts and had several seizures. The staff wouldnt even allow me to see her during this time. They rushed her to NICU and continued life saving efforts and were able to somewhat stabalize her enough to send her to our local Children's Hospital.
Before she left, they brought her in a life support incubator and I was able to see her for the first time. The chaplain, doctors, hospital administrators, and my family, all crammed in my tiny room and said a prayer for her. It was phenomenal how many lives she had touched in that first hour. She was already fighting against the odds placed on her.
They released me from the hospital 2.5 hours after giving birth, so that I could "say a proper good-bye" to my little girl.
Upon arriving at the Children's Hospital, we were rushed into a room and told of her prognosis. She was on a ventilator, her lungs had collapsed, she had severe brain swelling and bleeds, High Blood Pressure, and they believed she had suffered a stroke. BUT her heart was beating strong.
Our prayer chain was unstoppable. People everywhere prayed for my baby and after one week of life saving efforts, she began fighting on her own. Exactly 2 weeks after she was born, she was released to come home.
We were told she would most likely never walk, talk, or eat on her own. From the day she came home she never had a single problem. She has developed as well, if not better, than any other healthy child. My God is truly an awesome God
