Solomon

Although Solomon is a key figure in religion, particularly Judaism and Chrisitanity, I think he was also a very wise person. His wisdom and philosophical statements run along the lines Aristotle and Socrates. If I'm wrong, please correct me in this assesment. God bless.

Solomon is traditionally regarded as the author of Ecclesiastes.

Awesome book. I recommend that to anyone into philosophy, even if they aren't Christian. Some of my favorites are:

"A poor and wise child is better than an old and foolish king, who will not be warned any more" - 4:13
"If you see the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgement and justice in a province, do not marvel at the matter. for he that is high has another higher, and there are others still higher than these" - 5:8
"Do not say, Why was it that the former days were better than these? For you do not ask wiseley in regard to this" - 7:10
"Then I praised pladness, because a man has no better thing under the sun than to eat and to drink and to be glad..." - 8:15
"...for a living dog is better than a dea lion" - 9:4
"Rejoice in your youth, young man, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eeyes; but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgement". - 11:9
