  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Oh well, I will head for Cornwall in 2026, and get 96%.
I wish you the best of luck, or at least better weather than I had today. It was completely overcast throughout the eclipse. Perhaps you could try the west coast of Iceland, or northern Spain (or southern Spain in 2027).

I live in St. Louis County. We were fortunate to have clear skies and perfect visibility from my front yard. My sister and her boyfriend came in from Maryland. Besides eclipse glasses, he brought a telescope with a solar filter. So we had great views of the sun and could see sunspots. My sister even caught one small, brief solar flare. We had over a minute of totality. It was very cool. A bucket list event for sure.

Traveled to the Kansas City area and a friend and I had to drive around looking for a clear area to view the eclipse. We wanted to be near the center line but it looked like it was going to be cloudy. We found a wedge of clear sky to the southeast and settled on a spot with about 1:20 of totality.

Awesome. My advice is - go for totality. My house happens to be in the path of totality for the 2024 eclipse so I can reciprocate the favor of being host (although, alternatively, my friend could drive across Missouri to see it).

Congratulations on seeing the eclipse, and good luck for April 2024.
