  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why do believers keep saying the Solar Eclipse is a sign of God's pending judgment?

While I agree that the wrath of God is coming, which I am terrified of, don't you think the Solar Eclipse is just a natural occurrence? Why is it this Eclipse is a sign of God's judgment and not the others?

And doesn't it represent God in the wrong way when we pretend to speak for God? How do some believers know that it's a sign of God's judgment? Did God speak to them directly? And where in the Bible does it say it is a sign of God's judgment?

I know that the rainbow is a sign of promise from God. It's right there in the Bible. But it is also science. I don't know how it works very well, for I am not a scientist. But I do know when I spray the hose into the sunlight, colors appear. And I don't know why I am bringing that up.

The point that I am saying that if believers are wrong about the Eclipse being the sign of God's judgment, and it is just a natural occurrence in nature, isn't that taking the Lord's name in vain? I mean, is acting like we are speaking for God when we are not speaking for him, taking the Lord's name in vain?

It just seems like some believers (not all) are constantly saying this or that is a sign from God. I just wonder does God really need believers to speak for him, unless of course, it is written in his Word?

This eclipse could just be science and not a sign from God. But if it is may God have mercy on me. I know I deserve his wrath.

I am highly hesitant to assign any prophetical significance to Eclipses and Blood moons because they are regular events that have happened repeatedly down through the centuries.. People who whip up excitement over these events do a lot of harm because it has the same effect as the parable of the boy who cried wolf...

Jesus gave a lot of signs of the times of His return and we have got to see them all before we start lifting out heads up in expectations of His return.. So hold your horses and calm down.. Enjoy the eclipse.. and plan to still be paying taxes and growing old into the future..

I believe it to be intellectually, emotionally and spiritually unhealthy to live your life in constant expectation of the "end times". It is far better to live your life in such a way as to make this a better world, not just today but into the far distant future.

Eclipses are entirely natural events which can be predicted centuries in advance.

I find the whole angry-god-in-the-sky concept rather primitive, so I don't live my life cringing in expectation of some cosmic temper-tantrum.

I do but not nearly enough.

His judgment is something I fear, but I still sin. So I probably don't fear his wrath as much as I should.

Part of me thinks you are right and part of thinks it's a good thing to remember the end for us can be tomorrow. But we don't need a scientific event to remind us that we are to die someday and meet our maker. I am not preaching everyone needs to do that. But I am saying that is something I need to do. I need to remind myself this everyday.

The secular media already delights is making Christians look like idiots. there's no need in feeding them ammunition.

You're right. I apologize.

But I look like an idiot myself. I imagine God being extremely angry. I live in constant fear of God's wrath. So my goal was not to make Christians look like idiots. My goal was actual concern.

I apologize for being vague in my post. I was making a general statement, not singling anyone out. Sorry.

Sorry I misunderstood you. And you're probably right still.

These images make sense in a world that believed that everyone saw the same thing at the same time, now we know the earth is a globe and that we circle the sun, with the moon circling us it's simply observational and predictable.

Most years have 2 solar eclipses (in different places) and can have as many as 5, to view them as anything but a natural event is silly.

9 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord God, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:

Amos 8:9

Maybe this is what some believers meant about how the eclipse reminds us of God's judgment.

Again this only makes sense in a world where the belief is everyone sees the same thing, unless of course it's from the perspective of the nation of Israel.

It would of course be night on half the world, so darkening the earth in the clear day would be meaningless.

I do but not nearly enough.

His judgment is something I fear, but I still sign. So I probably don't fear his wrath as much as I should.
If one believes Jesus and trusts 100% in the atonement He secured for their salvation.. then that person will never suffer the wrath of God... His beloved adopted Childeren will never suffer His wrath..

1 Thessalonians 5: KJV
8 "But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. {9} For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,"
