We should be more positive about farm bankruptcies, buying up those farms and returning them to natural grassland and forests. This will bolster commodity prices, provide more recreational opportunities, and help the environment. Exporting half of what we grow isn't a good idea.

How far would you go with this? With the human population growing, more food is needed, not less. Many farms in my state have already closed up.

Free hypodermic needles for the drugs coming in across the border while decriminalizing knowingly giving someone aids are an excellent example of problems being resolved.

I never understood banning plastic straws while giving out free needles to shoot up drugs (which are made of the same thing).

Drugs are not made of plastic.

...and the farmers would be converted to grassland managers?

Human population growth is the problem.

I think the bankruptcies are probably necessary, but as harsh as I am about rural red voters, I don't think we should be "positive" about these farms going under. They're small businesses owned by hard-working poor people who've put their entire lives into something that, in many cases, has virtually zero equity.

And why isn't exporting half our food a good idea? That means our farmers are efficient and productive and have more sustainable businesses.

Not to mention that helps these farmers make money to keep their farms afloat, and help feed people in other parts of the world. Also gives those people things to eat that they might not be able to grow there.

Is there a SOCIALISM!!2! :mmh:

Yes, well, that “typo” was actually intentional, (what a nearly apoplectic writer might conjure trying to SLAM them keys), but on my iPad the “1” is uppercase on the “q”, while the “!” is to the right of the “m”.

The thought that crossed my mind was that forcing small businesses into bankruptcy so they can be bought up for pennies on the dollar is a time honored Capitalist tactic. It would not surprise me to see the total acreage of the 'corporate farms' increase at nearly the same rate as the 'family farmer' goes under.

While I'm not convinced that Trump smart enough to think this through, on the surface, this does look like a bigly capitalist manipulating the market to enable other capitalists to profit from bankruptcy.
