  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't care much for them, but one of the Gallagher's had something funny to say:

"After I heard System of a Down, I thought, I'm actually alive to hear the s***tiest band ever. Of all the bands that have gone before, and all the bands that'll be in the future, I was around when the worst was around."

Those guys are a hoot.

question is a bit weird cause it talks about there being no afterlife. Anyway its in 5/4 beat and it sounds very... different. Soad to produce some weird and sometimes even anti-christian stuff though, i just don't listen to those songs even though i still love them

Just saw them on Friday live, and as expected, they were extremely bad. Their music is completely random, it's ridiculous! Blasting part here, suddenly silence there, they need to learn some about dynamics!

the lyrics to question:

Sweet berries waiting for two ghosts are no different than you
ghosts are now waiting for you, are you dreaming

dreaming the night
dreaming, all right

do we, do we know when we fly
when we, when we go
do we die?

Its those things repeated a few times. Nothing unChristian or about no afterlife in that.

I agree with Fieldy. There's no sense in following a trend when it come to metal. IT goes against what alternative stands for. The notion of doing your own thing regardless or what's considered the norm. SOAD are actually really melodic. I think they're a great chage from the bands I usually listen to.

It's not a trend, random is something different than avant garde. SOAD have some melodic passages, and together with some avant garde structures that could work. What they do is throw in silent and harsher parts here and there, which is not a showcase of avant garde skill, but a lack of it. Sure, it can sound fun, but there is no bigger whole (it is not lead by anything) or interesting structure. There is a complete lack of subtility that I can't stand, but ofcourse everyone has different tastes. Ow and yes, there are trends and structures in metal, as well as antistructures (mainly in doom and black), but they all draw an influence from something, so call it tradition or trend, it sure is present in real metal as well as in any other genre of music. The good bands are progressive, but stay true to their roots, in that aspect, being original is hard.

I like them :)

Legally downloaded Mesmerize at 10 cent a track (can't burn them, or transfer them to mp3 player), and I like it, but not enough to actually buy the CD. The tracks get stuck in your head easily, but they're not worthy of being listened to for say... 30 times (and I'm not talking 30 times in a row :p). While truly good music does have that quality.
