Romans 5: 20 The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more (NIV)
I have a son who will be driving soon. He is fourteen and feels the need to criticize my driving on a regular basis. Mainly, he criticizes the fact that I regularly drive above the speed limit. Not very much, but if the limit is 65 mph and I am going 67, he will chime in. I have to say that the speed limit is not one of my favorite rules. It just shows me that I am sinful. It shows me that I need to be forgiven. God made a way for me to be forgiven. I don’t deserve the forgiveness and there is nothing I can do to earn the forgiveness, but I have been forgiven. I have been forgiven and if you are a believer then you too have been forgiven and it is all by grace – us getting what we don’t deserve. The point is, God’s grace is far more powerful than the sin that convicts us. Yes we are sinful, and sin has had a time of reigning in our lives. But grace came along and grace overpowers sin and makes us fit for eternal life in the presence of God. This should make us incredibly humble and very thankful for the way God made for us by grace.
