A whole chicken is a good alternative. It's filling without making your gut as hard as a basketball (like turkey does). It doesn't make you sleepy if you get full on it. There's chicken stuffing if you don't do turkey stuffing. It goes just as well with typical Thanksgiving sides as turkey does. It's a win-win.
It is so miserable when your tummy feels like a rock and then you can't breathe. I think I am allergic to turkey which is why I have weird feelings after I eat it. Turkey has "L-Tryptophan" occurring naturally in it, that is why it makes people sleepy. I didn't know there was a chicken stuffing, that is good to know. :)

The turkey eating and sleepiness is a myth. It’s just over eating.

If you're thinking Stove Top stuffing, they definitely have other flavors. They also have a Sage flavor, Savory Herbs flavor, Cornbread flavor, and Pork flavor. Darn that makes me feel hungry :|

L-Tryptophan: Does Turkey Really Make You Sleepy?

That is probably correct (the biochemistry of it), but anecdotally I can also attest to that: every Thanksgiving we would get oppressively sluggish and sleepy. The past two Thanksgivings, being that we were able to maintain the meal almost 90% compliant to our household's zero added sugar, very low carb diet, there's no such effect. And we do overeat. The extra protein from Turkey and ham makes us want to go out and play rather than snooze - we got around to finishing up Christmas decorations after eating. I am very thankful for this realization, in fact. Some of this "food coma" situation was common with many bigger meals, for me as a diabetic, anyway, along with the irritability and hypervigilance caused by not eating "on time". On low carb, food always has the opposite effect, and not-eating never causes that "hangry" state either.
