• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

So that happened.

Ever had a neighbor who packed up all their trash into bags, forcefully open the door to your house and then throw their garbage into your living room?

No? Me neither.

*sips his coffee passive aggressively*

Not to suggest that Mormons and JW's are trash, but they are a Christian 'problem' they are not separate world religions.

I kind of enjoyed being excluded from the “Christians Only” areas because some of them seemed to consist of the most venom filled hateful posts on CF. This small corner WAS largely ignored and quite peaceful.

Yeah, but what happens when they start throwing all the Christians sects they can't tolerate here? Bye, bye peace!

Not from the Mormons or JWs, I expect. They will probably behave themselves.

I think it would be better if they just permanently banned the LDS and JW members.
:)

Then by what right are we here?

I left CARM when it began to peg various people as non-Christians and only allowing them to post in the atheism section (never mind, they clearly believed in God.) Are we headed the same direction?

I expect they will be on the defensive too much to do much of anything.

I once gave a paper on the Babi heroine Tahirih, at Brigham Young University for a regional meeting of the American Academy of Religion. I got a better audience there than any other papers I've ever presented at the AAR, and most of them were Mormons.

Coffee at Dunkin' Donuts was awful, though. Serves me right for buying a cup of coffee in Provo.

I agree that the forum is headed in that direction. However, neither the LDS or the JWs, benefit from a situation where they can be openly attacked. Having a continuous cycle of threads criticizing the same topic over and over again is not in their personal interest. It would be better for them, in my and only my opinion, if they were banned.

Better yet, if the LDS and the JW stopped responding to these posts they would deny the critics the chance to criticize them. Alas, it appears that many of the LDS are too addicted to debate to deprive their critics of their satisfaction.

It was probably three weeks old.

Silence is acceptance. Would you allow your Faith to be trashed daily?

I bet that's what Jesus would have done.

I generally don't make assumptions about what Jesus might have done, other than to help guide me in doing what is right. And even that I keep to myself. I think it is possible that you don't entirely understand where I am coming from on this issue. I am not critical of either of these two religions.

That's really the point I'm making. If the LDS and JWs stopped arguing with those who find fault with them then the trashing would stop. It is only fun if they have someone to argue with. I am convinced that a single response from a member of either of these two religions, explaining once how they really view/understand the topic, provides all the counter-point which is necessary. Any responses beyond that just feeds the debate fury, like chumming the water for LDS/JW hungry sharks.

No arguments = no fun.

No fun = no posts.

No posts = no trashed beliefs.

If people came here and started making thread after thread trashing Judaism, I would argue with them. There is something to be said for speaking up and preventing false impressions from spreading about your faith. Mormons and JWs probably have enough misconceptions out there that they want to correct those errors.

First, I haven't rounded up anyone.

Second, are a lot of threads created to attack the Unitarian beliefs?

:o

The Unitarians were the third group that lost their “Christian” label.
