  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I feel silly. I went to a cast party Friday night for the community theater I'm in. Nice lady who has worked in a previous production and well known among my fellow theater friends is in the cast. I sat with some of the cast members and she mentioned that she feels like she's getting old. I gathered she was a little cagey about her age, but when somebody asked, she's just a few months older than me. So I just chuckled and said "Aw, you're not old, we're the same age!". We compared some funny stories about our cats before somebody hit me up to shoot some pool with him.

Saturday night she caught me totally off guard after our performance. I was heading home because I was very tired, but as I was helping our stage manager tidy up, she came by and said "I keep meaning to have a chat with you, I don't know you that well and I'd like to get to know you better". :o All I could manage was "Okay!". It was like I was back in high school and geeky, nerdy me is being approached by the popular (and quite attractive) girl and saying she wants to get to know me better. Usually they avoided me like the plague!

Might have to catch up with her at our brush up this week and see if she'd like to chat over some coffee, if my "deer-in-headlights" look and brief reply didn't put her off.

There definitely times I miss clues thrown at me. The nice things about this ladies, dave is show clearly she spoke. I like that your going to follow up with her. I'd just say something along the line of, now that I'm not as tired as the other night, I can think clearly so we can figure out a time we can talk.

I was thrown an easy one this past weekend. One of the Jewish ladies rode up with me to VT. She talked about intimidated by guys. Part of the workshop was being able to verbalize ones desires. So this lady was behind the chair I was sitting in. She got my attention and said she had a desire to run her hands thru my hair. Asked if she could. I said yes. sweet.

That is great! I love reading success stories like that.

At the Super Bowl yesterday, another 49er fan(male) and I were talking. We were wearing our 49er's clothes, dressed in red and gold. This woman,in a Ravens'jersey, just started talking to us. She was very friendly to us. I thought she was about 32 years old. She said that this game is very, very emotional for her. We both asked her,"Why?" She said that she is the mother of one of the Ravens, who is 24. She was pleased when we said that we thought she was about 32. She is actualy 44 years old. The other 49er fan told her,"Well,we obviously do not want your team to do well. But we hope your son does well." She thanked us. Then she said placed her hands on both our arms and said,in her cute southern accent,"Well. is was nice talking to you all. Here comes my husband." When her husband approached us,we both shook his hand. Her husband was friendly, also.

As she left,I was thinking to myself,"WOW!,what a sweet lady. It was so refreshing to talk to a sweet, frendly, and an attractive lady. Why can't I find someone like( single,of course) that in California?

By the way,I had nothing to do with the stadium lights going out during the game, when my team was losing,as my friend asked me when he called my voice mail.

Sparky - what a cute story! I'm also in community theater, so props to my fellow stage geek! And hey, it's HARD to find single, straight men in theater (don't laugh, it's true!) so I can't blame her for latching onto you lol. I hope you get to take her out, and it goes well! Keep us posted :)

Hey, I am a single,straight man in theater.

But,your are right,I am aware that there are some gay men in theater. I have worked with a couple who were openly gay. When I was doing "Julius Ceasar",one actress told us,"I am a lesbian" I stated to kid her by asking her,"Excuse me,did you just say that you are a.... thespian?":p

Haha exit, we all know it was all Beyonce's fault! LOL J/K and we also know it could have been a different outcome if the ref would have called that last call on the ravens for holding. JMHO. It was a great game though!

Ha ha, yes, I can think of at least a few gay guys in our theater community. I can think of several married couples who met through the theater too, though. I was just so surprised by her saying that when I least expected it, I was at a loss for words. But hey, if I didn't scare her off there's a chance. Let's see, we both like theater, we both like to sing karaoke, we both have cats, we're roughly the same age, and apparently she wants to know more about me. Did I mention she's easy on the eyes too? Far be it for me to miss an opportunity.

Thanks all! :)

Good for you, dayhiker. I did meet this one young lady at the game, who was from California. She may have been in her late twenties,or early thirties. She said that she was upset, when the 49ers were down 22-6 at halftime. I kept telling her to never give up. She believed me when the 49ers were making their comeback. Right before the 49ers were to make their last play,on fourth down. She said,"I think I am going to be sick!" She took the lost very hard. After the final gun had sounded, ending the game,I gave her a hug.

Yeah,it was a great game! Somebody had to lose.

I heard that next year's Super Bowl will be sponsered by Motel 6. They will leave the light on for ya!:p

So far, no bueno. Seems very difficult to even get a word in edgewise with her. I confided to a mutual friend of ours at karaoke night that I think she was hinting that she wanted to get to know me, and our friend said "Oh, I could see you two together, go for it!".

I did send her a message by Facebook wishing her a good turnout for tryouts for a play she's co-directing, and got a "Thanks! You should try out ;-)" back.

Our brush up got cancelled, so I showed up Friday night since I had to return a coffee maker I repaired for our theater even though I wasn't scheduled to run lights. She commented that I wasn't scheduled, and I said I was returning the coffee maker, but she was on her way to change. I wonder if I should have said "And to see you". After the performance, I said "Nice job!", to which she said "Thanks!" - and ran off to change (again!). I stuck around to try to catch up after she was done changing, but darned if I didn't get drafted into helping our stage manager reset the stage, and by the time we were done, she was gone. D'oh!

Argh, I can design an embedded computer system, decode ethernet and USB packets, understand how USB storage devices work, and write code in assembly language, but this is hard!:D

Would it be in bad form to send a message by Facebook (we have been Facebook friends for a while, but I don't have her number), and just say that I've been trying to catch up to her and that I'm still interested in having a chat with her? I honestly don't know if that's appropriate or not. I am supposed to work the show Sunday, so I'll see her again, but how does one politely get her attention?

I think it would be totally appropriate to send a message via FB as long as you do it via private message. Be prepared for a polite "no thank you" because she doesn't seem to be noticing you....but I would still ask her out because sometimes we women don't slow down enough to notice the good guys until they actually make us stop for a minute.

Okay. Here's the thing. I think I'm that woman. Not literally, but figuratively. I'm very interessted in the guy at my church, but in struggling to overcome my own shyness, I realize I act with the guy who has paid some attention to me, just the same way this woman is acting with you. I say as much as my shyness will allow, polite and touching base, then I run off, too stinking shy to just stand there and have a conversation. And I think he has a dose of this too, but no anywhere near as much as I do. I think checking in with her any way you can and letting her know that you would like to have some time to get to know each other would be great. I also think it would be best to have something in mind as to when and where you would do that, like getting together after a theater event, rehearsal or something. That way it doesn't get left as a "We'll do it sometime." Suggest a time.

Caveat: this message has been approved by miss-a who is desperately sick of her shyness and is currently trying very hard to step out of it. (I even dared to post my pic on my profile finally.) I'm just sick of being the incredible shrinking woman. There's nothing wrong with fellowship and trying to get to know someone. I've made a commitment to stop acting shy even when I feel it. so at this point I'm very biased toward stepping out of shyness. Pray for me! I'll be praying for you as well.

Sparky - go for it :) Just a simple, platonic "could we get together sometime" sort of message. Trust me, she'll know what it means, women are the intuitive ones :) If she accepts it, congrats! If she seems to beat around the bush or hesitate, let it go, she's not interested.
